This is bizarre. I'm a rural user using a USB720 modem. I've had no problems with an antenna on my roof. I've been getting ~-80db and 1.2Mbps with it in various positions, and I've just mounted it finally today. It worked great for about 3 minutes (same speeds), but now I have a bizarre problem: I'm stuck in National Access, even though I have about 4 bars and ~80db. When I do the HDR lock, I get Broadband access, but the RSSI drops to -110db and 1 bar - taking the speeds down to 200kbps. This has been the case on three computers, running both the old and new version of VZAccess Manager. I haven't tried doing a direct dial (#777).
Anyone know what might cause this? I'm thinking it's just tower maintenance at this point, but it's strange how I can get the DB readings higher by undoing the HDR lock. Unfortunatley that traps me in National Access and 150Kbps. Any ideas?
Thanks. |

EDIT: Oops, I didn't realize this was such an old post. Oh well.
That does sound a bit odd. More info please:
1) How exactly are you doing your HDR lock?
2) Are those dB levels before or after connection? If one is before any connection at all, it's probably a provider that your PRL won't allow.
3) Are the dB levels you gave CDMA RSSI, HDR RSSI, or one of each?
4) What type of antenna? Directional (e.g., Yagi or grid)? Frequency bands (850, 1900, or both)?
5) Are you using an amp with the antenna, and if so, is it dual band or not?
Keep in mind that the CDMA and HDR/EVDO are actually different transceivers on slightly different frequencies, even though they're probably (though not necessarily) mounted on the same tower. _________________ AC595, WRT54G3G |

90% of the time Voice and DO will go across the same radio/filter/antenna. But they are definitely different frequencies.
If I had to guess, I would say DO is down on this site you normally access. When you HDR lock, you are grabbing overlapping coverage. I am surprised you can get a call through with -110. Must have a great EC/IO.
Check this... in 1x mode. Look at your PN. Then do the same in HDR. If they differ, you are on 2 different sectors. Most likely 2 different sites.
Then again, if you are using external equipment, a whole lot of things can go wrong. |

| havea problem similar to this. When I lock my card into hdr it drops to -100 every couple of minutes. It worked great at a steady -75 for a couple of weeks until i installed new vrw manager. |
