First, let me say you probably do not want to try this at home, as you may brick your modem.
After the GPS feature stopped working on my U727, I called Sprint for a dose of really lousy tech support. where in the end, after getting hung up on, two techs that didnt have a clue, and was finally told they do not support the GPS features. I took matters into my own hands.
I copied down all the settings from all the screens (including the ##data screen), and did a factory reset via the ##RTN command.
Afterwards, I filled in what I could, and the card would not dial out and re-authorize. I added a second internet connection, tried again, and it came right up this time, initialized/authorized though the secondary internet connection. So far so good
The GPS came right up, and started working again. I did a few speed test and noticed a huge improvement.
The factory reset did not change the firmware, nor did it change the PRL. It did set my home agent back to Kansas City (a home agent I have had a lot of trouble getting good speed from in the recent past).
Anyway, it's been three days now, I have been running lots of speed tests, and the performance has stayed top notch. I have a marked improvement in speed throughout both the day and night.
So I am wondering, besides getting the GPS to start back up, what could have changed to make such a difference?
While before, I was getting Rev0 speeds of 1500 to 2200 mbs down quite often in the evenings, now I am getting it most all of the time.
All the settings are the same. The change happened instantly upon the reset, and I seriously doubt Sprint upgraded the tower at the same exact moment.
So why the improvement?
Ideas?

Joe,
A couple of questions Joe on your resetting the modem.
What data screens are you refering to that you copied down?
The ##RTN command, how did you generate it and send it to the Modem?
Kastly what GPS application are you using?
Thanks

| Restarting like that reactivates the device on Sprint's end. Over time, it will probably slow down again, mine always does after I reactivate the device. |

Search the forums for ##DATA, ##DEBUG etc..
Currently, I have Street Atlas 2007 for a GPS app. I don't use it much as we have other dedicated GPS devices.
The GPS on the 727 shut down on Dec 21st, in Denver. and I have been unable to get it to work since (except after the reset). Interestingly, it now works, but only when hooked up via RTT 1x (and not in EVDO mode).
I have a clear view of the sky.

Yours speeds up or slows down after re-activation?
Thanks,
