| I had been connecting with my Verizon USB720 Modem hooked directly to my laptop for four months. This week I took home a surplus KR1 router from work, updated the firmware, and set it up with my modem. While it worked great with a direct wired connection--the wireless connection from the KR1 to my laptop was spotty at best. It would drop out frequently, and interrupted pages being loaded--it was worse than being on dialup and someone picking up the phone. My diagnosis was that what I had inherited was a KR1 with a dud local wireless connection (just read the forums). My solution (as I read in numerous places here) was to hook up a Linksys WRT300N router that I already had to the KR1--the only setting I changed on the KR1 was to disable the wireless network. After 24 hours it works perfectly. I have not had to do any resets and am experiencing the same speeds as if I had the modem connected directly into my laptop. I'm now usb card/dongle free and ready to expand my home network. |
