I have a UM150 with Alltel. I've had it for about a month now and it's been wonderful. Today however it has been terribly slow. Many times today I'd try and do a speedtest and it wouldn't even start sometimes it'd start and quit halfway through.
I called alltel tech support and they helped me out for a little while. They had me delete my internet cookies/files, restart my computer, reconnect the internet connection all the usual. I also had a guy that updated my PRL version... not sure what that is. That helped "a little". I'm still getting horrible download speeds... comparred to what I have been getting.
On average I get around 80-110kbps today however i'm getting 5-15kbps. The tech support people told me that there really isn't anything else I can do. They informed me that there were no tower issues that they were aware of.
So ... is my card dying? If so will alltel replace it or will I have to buy another? I'm not under contract I paid the full price of the card so I wouldn't be under a contract.
Thanks in advance,

My PRL is 40036. My EVDO RSSI is -79 dBM. I have 3 bars of signal. I just don't understand why my download speed and upload speed is so horrible. Like right now I'm downloading Blender3d I'm getting 6kbps. I downloaded it the other day and I was getting 100+ kbps. (I had to reinstall my OS why I had to redl it.) This is really irritating me.
Alltel tech support went through a few things and they couldn't figure out the problem. I'm paying 60 a month and I can get this same performance from dial up! I don't think it's a problem on my end, I've tried it on two different computers, using the card in the same place I always have, so what's going on!?
Sorry, bad mood. I havn't been able to get any work done since my nets been down. I got a 500+ mb download and a 250+ mb download I gotta get and I can't because my net is acting crazy!

Taylor, you could try reapplying the 40036 prl. I had a problem that went away after I reapplied 40036 prl. It could have been a coincident though.

This is how you flash a prl bin on your card when your provider is Alltel.
1. Get the 40036.prl
Google "answerman's license to rant prl" to find the page. I can not post links.
2. Bring up the Alltel QuickLink Mobile. Do NOT connect to Alltel.
3. CNTL D
4. Put in password 000000
5. Put in 000000 in activation field.
6. Put the complete path to where you placed your 40036.prl file in the prl field.
7. Click OK. |
