The E815 is supposedly going to be released on Verizon's network in May. Curious to see if it will have its Bluetooth limited in the same fashion as the V710.

Bought one last week. In comparison to my old SE T610 on t-mobile, it's like night a day. Great coverage, great sound.

| I see that you can hack the E815 for DUN on Verizon's service, but I was curious if Verizon can tell you're doing this, and if you get the high-speed evdo speeds? |

I am able to get my e815 to act as a Bluetooth modem, but I only get 90kps. I am in an EVDO area, but I did not buy a data plan.
Is there a way to use the phone in place of the EVDO card?

Bluetooth may not be able to handle EV-DO
BlueTooth 1x is not fast enough to keep up with the speed of EVDO, so even if you are in a 400Kbps - 700Kbps area (or faster), Bluetooth will never be able to go faster than 140Kbps, or depending on your phone, less than that.
The solution is BlueTooth 2.0, I am not sure if any phones yet have that. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

The above basically BS. Bluetooth keeps up with EVDO speeds just fine.
Proof and point. I just ran a speed test from DSL reports on my iPAQ 4700 and E815 and got 520 Kbps.....a couple of days ago it was 380 kpbs.
The E815 is the only phone I know of that does the EVDO bluetooth tethering easily.....(though the LG 8100 can do it with some hacking). ***NOTE: comment made on non-pda/blackberry phones, (though you may be charged for excessive use - at your own risk)***
Google is your friend.

| The most I could get out of BlueTooth is 300Kb/sec when using as a network link. In most cases, BT will not take advantage of full EVDO, but USB tethered will. |

I just ran a few tests using both BlueTooth (BT) and a Motorola USB cable (from motorola).
In chronological order - Unless labeled otherwise, this was dslreports.com speed test on the linkline server.
USB : 493D 89U
BT: 347D 35U
BT: 128D 37U
BT: 282D 37U
BT: 333D (using Mobile speed test)
USB: 326D (Using Mobile Speed test)
Seems pretty similar (USB to BT) to me. But look at the variation in the tests.... |

| ^If your EVDO connection is only capable of 500K at that particular location, then it will be less noticable. But EVDO can go over 1Mb/sec in ideal conditions. BT won't do that (effective speed), USB will. I can get up to 1Mb/sec on a Sprint 6700 phone when USB attached. |

Michael is right. I ran into the problem with my Audiovox 6600 I was wasting my money for evdo and just getting top 140kbps those who say are getting faster. Yeah right! So I canceled that phone and now the Audiovox 6600 is gathering dust. Bought the Kyocera 650 and Router. Now were talking speed. Also the Audiovox 6600 with the USB cable connected I topped off at 220kbps so that didnt help either. |
