Since about 2pm today, I've only been able to obtain NationalAccess. The antenna count dropped from 4 to 1/0 on and off earlier today. Now it's 4 bars. Shows Broadbandaccess when not connected, but, upon connecting, indicates NationalAccess.
I wonder if they've been working on the local cell or if maybe my account go downgraded?
Only time will tell.

If it is still happening, it would be worthwhile to call Verizon Wireless Data Tech Support @ 1-866-788-9387. You will need your 10 digit mobile phone number when calling this number, you will be able to talk to someone who can help you pretty quick. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael - thanks for the suggestion. I did that a couple of hours ago. The nice folks at Verizon wireless tech support double checked my account to verify that I still have both BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess for billing as well as for data configuration purposes. That was my worry, that somehow my account got flagged for downgrade to NationalAccess only.
My Verizon phone continues to show EV and not 1x. If I disconnect for a few minutes, the v620 says BroadbandAccess is available, but as soon as the connection is established, I get NationalAccess. 4 bars worth. Sigh.
Their supposition is the same as mine: maintenance on and/or failed equipment at the local tower. They have no way to check that from tech support. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow if it's still problematic, but...I'm hoping it miraculously fixes itself by tomorrow.
It wouldn't be such a big deal, but my DSL (and my VOIP phone service!) has been out since Saturday (apparently Verizon "requisitioned" my line for some other purpose and now Speakeasy/Covad has to convince them to give it back or something. Ouch).
And, since they were repaving behind my building yesterday and today, I couldn't schedule a Covad visit until tomorrow, but they decided Thursday is better for them, so... argh!
And if that wasn't the kicker: speed tests are showing 27kbps/down and 36kbps/up. Something really bad happened to my local tower, I bet.

PS - oh, and until this afternoon, I was using Skype for my work calls. Then EVDO decided to go away. Now I'm past my minutes on the Verizon phone due to Skype not working over 1xRTT! It's like some evil Verizon plan to get me to give them more money...
PPS - yes, my hair is grayer than it was on saturday. |

Hi Brendan,
Where are you located? I have had the same problem since last night in the Dallas area. My connection always went to NA vs broadband. I am now out of the broadband area but have NA. However, it is extremely slow, slower than 14.4K!
I am in the middle of Texas at this time and the connection is practically unusable. Have you been able to get on broadband yet? I called Verizon tech support and she had me do all the same things I had already done(run wizard, reboot etc). She also had me run a speed check on 2wire.com. The speed was fine when it was sending or receiving, but the problem was the amount of time the connection showed DORMANT. It would take 60 secs to load a webpage.
I am wondering if anyone else in Texas has the same problem. Don't know if the lines are saturated by evacuees or not.

[Whoops, meant to reply to this msg and not overwrite it. Drat.]
1. Getting no dormants, but I always have ssh up and running.
2. 1xRTT seems to be running faster than it was earlier today. The internet is almost usable at this point.
3. But still NationalAccess only. Even my E815 phone has been saying 1x on and off, when normally it always says EV. Something odd is going on in my cell.

30 hours so far, NationalAccess only. I spent about 90 minutes on the phone w/ Verizon this afternoon, chained through about 5 different people.
Looks like I'm at 3rd level support with a case #. They couldn't get in touch with the network performance people (voice mail and busy signals for about 20 minutes), so they're emailing them to check it out and we're supposed to touch base around 10am-11am tomorrow morning. Because of the email, it looks like they won't even schedule looking into the problem until tomorrow.
Also, my E815 Phone is now permanantly indicating 1x instead of EV, so I've got pretty convincing evidence the issue isn't my computer nor my V620 card.
Hey...covad is also scheduled to start debugging the DSL problem tomorrow morning between 8 and noon as well.
I'm just super annoyed that the broadband access went down at the exact same time as the DSL outage - both are Verizon's responsibility and it's like pulling teeth to get them to work on either one (you've gotta prove it wasn't someone else's fault first).

1. BroadbandAccess is back. No call yet today from Verizon, but hey, it's back up, so I'm happy again.
2. Covad came out to check the DSL. DSLAM is good at CO. No signal at demark. Looks like Covad has to bring Verizon in on the DSL down issue...

Verizon called back. Verified I was up and running. I was having trouble with the tech's accent, but from what I could dig out of him they verified there had been a problem with the switch or cell. It somehow related to changed passwords, monthly change controls and security issues. He said that sort of thing is pretty rare and it was a localized issue.
The good news is: I was the only one to report it, so I suppose I'm probably one of the few BroadbandAccess users on that particular cell.
Either that, or the only one persistant enough to go through 5 people to get to the guy who can talk to the network folks.

Hi Bill,
I've been around DFW area too and things are horrible. Some websites won't load... download speeds are poor. I'm on a Kyocera 650 card. |
