Sharing USB 3G or EVDO internet connection
Using only the equipment I already own and without purchasing an EVDO router, I am trying to share my internet connection wirelessly notebook computer (built in WiFi). My Ultracomm um150 is used as a full-time internet solution at home. The USB modem replaced my satellite internet which WAS routed through my Linksys Wireless G Broadband router (WRT54GS) and then connected through the LAN to my desktop PC. . Now that the internet connection is plugged directly into my desktop PC through the USB and no longer through the Linksys router I am trying to figure out how to share the internet connection with the notebook computer. However, I don't know how to setup a wireless peer to peer or gateway/bridge from the PC desktop using the Linksys router which can also function as a LAN and Access Point. Since my desktop PC is my primary computer I prefer to have the um150 plugged directly into this machine but am open to using notebook wifi capabilities if there is a better solution there. My PC is running Vista home Premiun Any help is much appreciated and my apologies if this is in any way a repeated post. In my initial search of the forum I could not find a solution to this scenario.
Thank you in advance for your reply, |

does your main PC (with the internet connection) have a wireless option ? If so, read on.
Basically, you should enable internet sharing and then bridge that connection with your wireless card in your PC.
With ICS it SHOULD set your IP on your main PC as 192.168.0.1
You're laptop should be able to find that without a problem.
I typed this from memory, so if it doesn't work, let me know, and we'll start from the beginning. |

If you don't have a wireless NIC in the desktop, you can do what you want with the equipment you have.
1. The UM150 plugged into the desktop
2. Turn on and set up ICS on your desktop
3. Set the IP address on the wired NIC on the desktop to a static address (e.g. 192.168.2.0)
3. Plug the ethernet connection on the desktop into one of the 4 LAN ports on the WRT54G
4. Set the IP address on the wireless NIC in the laptop to a static address (e.g. 192.168.2.1)
5. Set the Gateway on the laptop to the desktop IP address |
