Ok here goes
provider = verizon
modem=USB720
For the past 9 months I have enjoyed stellar performance of RevA on Verizon broadbandaccess. Saturday night I lost the broadbandaccess signal and have been getting only connected to the nationalaccess network.
Calls to verizon have resulted in a lot of wasted time trying to troubleshoot my device. They said that everything on there end is working fine.
To test just to make sure that it wasn't just my modem my cell phone (moto krazr) isn't showing the EV1x that it use to. I only get 1X on it.
My neighbors are having the same problem with there modem as well (not getting the broadbandaccess signal).
Just for info every so often my phone will switch to the EV1x for a second but with a very low signal and then switch back to the 1X. It is almost like the signal has moved or been reduced.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
oh yeah on the VZ access manager I am getting nationalaccess RSSI number in the -74 dbm to -88dbm fluctauating.
Thanks

There are similar posts to yours and I've gone through the same experience. I'm going on 12 months now with VZ and this has happened about three times. It has lasted anywhere from 1-4 days, but it has always come back to Broadband Access. I'm in the "business" and I'm convinced from my experience that VZ is just performing routine service or equipment upgrades at the tower location. VZ tech support was worthless for this type of scenario. My RSSI is similar to yours.
I'd give it a solid 5 days before panicking, I know it sucks, but I've been patient when it happens to me, and it has always come back. Your 9 months of stellar performance is unlikely to just disappear on a whim.
Please post back by the end of the week and let us know where you stand.
Thanks.. |

| Really it sounds to me as if they are having a tower issue, especially if your neighbors are experiencing something similar. Call Verizon back and TELL therm to bump you up a level on tech support until you reach someone who can actually tell you the status of the particular tower. Have your neighbor call too and do the same. I had a similar incident with Sprint once and it was a tower issue and it took almost 2 days once I called to get the evdo back |

what part of the country are you from..is issue still happening?
Only thing that can really be happening here is that the tower that serves you is experiancing a T1 outage on the EVDO hardware at cell..
If you give me more info or the ticket number you have opened I can call and get status or at least make sure correct person is looking into matter for you.. |

I am in the southern part of chesapeake, virginia. I didn't get a ticket open but I have made multiple calls and they said they were going to route it up the chain. |

Yeah i started reading some of the other post in the verizon forum. I am really hoping that this is going to be corrected as the service has been awesome up until this point.
Ill keep posting the results of my findings. |

call 611 and open a ticket ..Tell them you want to open a NRB ticket and have the switch look into the issue..You want someone to tell you what site your off of and if the EVDO is up and running there...
If your using VZW access click on window and do a Cntrl-D
password is diagvzw.. open the test window and do a screen capture.
Then paste it up here for me to see or send me an IM... |

Hi,
I'm in SC at the Ga Border. This has been happening to me since oh, last Thursday. Called cust srv, guy wanted me to uninstall and reinstall vzw access mgr. did that. couldn't connect. kept getting an error code qa913 (I think) called a 2nd time. Got different lady, nice, had me uninstall and reinstall the connection mgr again. Finally connected but it switched me from rev-a to nat. access. She mentioned that sometimes towers are being worked on which is why she asked me for the error code, but did not tell me if my local tower fell into that category. Suggested I update my vzw access mgr, gave me the website call back if any more problems.
got home that night (Monday) same thing.
cannot connect : error code QA913. Called cust. serv. guy told me to go under options and activate so the modem would be updated. I asked if it was normal to have to go through this every time I want to connect, what with the reinstalls, activate, refresh network etc etc. Could not answer that. Asked him why the access manager tells me the modem is not connected but the computer does know, and the modem lights are on. He suggested I take the modem into a store for checking, because he didn't really know.
I got a whole lot of I don't knows.
So, last night I tried again.
won't connect.
after countless attempts, it connects. signal starts out -87 db and that holds for 5-10 minutes. suddenly the signal jumps up to 100 then to 117 and I'm kicked from rev-a to N/A, then disconnected.
I go under control+d, field test....signal shows -87. I go under settings and uncheck HDR only and check Automatic. Then I try to connect. Now it connects but bounces from rev-a to n/a then rev-a and disconnects.
I've got 2 days left on my 30 day trial, and I'm about ready to chuck it.
For the past 2 weeks with the setting at HDR only, I've been getting reliable service at a signal of about -83 to -87. Then , this starts last week, and VZW is not fessin' up to the causes. It began with the mgr showing device not connected, then showing it not even installed when it was. (modem is the Um150)
I'm at my wits end...any suggestions? Thanks. |

Thanks for lending the assistance but I guess all of my persistence paid off. This morning before I left for work no EVDO. I called them yesterday evening to let them know that EVDO wasn't even available within 5 miles of my house (did some driving around and testing with my KRAZR and Blackberry).
On the way home had EVDO on my cell all the way to my house (woohoo).
I'm betting the tower was down and nobody new it. Like I said I am close to a remote tower.
As of this typing I am staring at my VZ access manager and it is showing
Broadband Access REV-A with an RSSI of -61. So I am good to go.
Is this a good RSSI signal? speakeasy.net speed test shows 649down 604 up. does evdo it get better than this?
Thanks again

Ok I did some more testing and I am getting in the range of 600 - 900 kbs down and 400-600 up
The wierd thing is this is on my other computer that is hooked via a router to my computer that has my USB720 modem.
so across my network the speeds are faster than at the computer with the modem ?
Why would this be? Is there settings in the OS that may be different to atest to the significant differences in speeds?
thanks

you didnt have a tower down just the span to the EVDO hardware at cell..I also made some calls for you. .Unfortunatly sometimes its out of VZW's hands do to the fact they lease there trunk lines back to the switch..
Customer service is just there to open trouble tickets..They really shouldnt comment on things they dont know..
Anyway Glad your up and running...
As far as your other findings..I also am experiancing this issue at my hom via a KR2 and a US robotics router..Very wierd indeed? i have a thread going on this under KR2 section.. |

VZWData, I saw your offer to help someone else. I was wondering if you could pm me for some help? I've got 2 cards and have been having issues for about a month now. Call center says im in a marginal spot, but I've been using evdo for 2+ years now.
thanks |
