Well, my card works great in non evdo and evdo.

I am on the edge of the EV-DO coverage area in Dalls/Ft. Worth. When I posted the question I didn't know what was causing me to have such poor performance in data rate...is it the computer, software or signal strength.
Since then I have come to believe it is because of a poor signal strength at my location. We spent some time in Fredericksburg, TX, last week and, although I was not in an EV-DO area, the NA worked okay and I had a 70% signal strength. Today, I drove down to Keller which is about 20 miles SE of my house just to see if being closer to the center of the EVDO area would affect my data speeds. I was able to get a 70% signal strength and had very good data speeds. That indicates to me that my problems are probably signal strength and I need to do something to raise it. I will probably go with an external antenna with an amplifier. I currently have a Wilson Trucker antenna for my cell phone and have had great results with it. It helps slightly with the aircard, but not enough.
If any of my conclusions don't make sense, please let me know.
Regards,
Bill |
