New to wireless EVDO networking.... I was just wondering how you boost the signal of the MBR1000? Everything I have found on the net works for routers with removeable antennas. Antennas on the MBR1000 are not removable which brings me to my question. Repeaters are out of the question in my circumstance. I am trying to go point to point at a range of about 600 yards (across a field...no obstructions...only overhead powerlines). Any ideas or links to sites would be most appreciated.

The MBR1000 is a "N" router. If you have a N adapter for the computer you want to link that distance should be fairly easy with no obstructions.

The only thing you can really do to boost range is buy a repeater, or a new WiFi router, and hook it up to the MBR1000. Get a cheap linksys and put DD-WRT on it,, boost the power to max and some larger antennas...

I agree with socksbb, I have 3 wap54g access points running micro dd-wrt on each doing the WDS thing. Works like a champ, serving my in-laws house about a 1/2 mile away without issues.

I don't know about that. 1800 feet is a long way for a MBR-1000.

My MBR-1000's lost a maintainable connections at "1100 and some odd feet" in my tests (I posted the exact number somewhere here in the forums).

In any case, although it showed "five bars", the connection was 1mbs and horrible.

It is also worth noting that its G Mode was about the same. I think the MIMO spec requires some walls or something to cause a bunch of reflections to get any "N" boost in the range department (ie: I think unobstructed line of sight gets no real boost from N Mode).

On the pother hand, I was impressed to find the MBR-1000 was able to send a signal on Friday, from the back of my PT Cruiser, across a parking lot and to the fifth floor of a big brick and steel hotel, and provide good coverage in the room. The antennas did have to be aimed.

1800 feet? It could probably be done by modifying the antennas. I think the record is almost 300 miles from a G device.

Joe
