Well, I got a flyer in the mail advertising Sprint's "new" EV-DO service for $59.99 per month. I already have it, at the $80 rate. I read it carefully, found no mention of requiring a separate voice plan to get the lower price, so I called customer service. Took the agent a minute to figure out what plan I needed, but he did change me. Didn't even ask if I had a qualifying voice plan. And even better, no contract extension - he said that they had a 90-day "guarantee" on all plans - you are free to change your plan within 90 days (which I was) without penalty or extension. So, my plan is changed and I now have unlimited EV-DO for $59.99 and this is my only Sprint device/plan.

Of course I will look very carefully at my next couple bills to make sure Smile

Oh, FWIW, the flier also promotes the free card deal through 10/28, and it looks like that deal is for both consumer and business accounts.

Wow, that is some very intresting news! Can you snap a picture of the coupon and host it?

I just got the EVDO service at 80 per month about four days ago. If I could drop it to 60 I would owe you beer Smile

Even though I am a Sprint Authorized Agent, I have a regular account like everyone else. So, I will call, just like everyone else and attempt to get the lower price today and post my results here.

I had Sprint for a few years, but I dropped them a few days ago because they have my bill so screwed up. They turn my service off every month until I call and explain the extent to which they have it FUBAR. Then, the nice agent gives me a temp credit and assures me the problem will get fixed and the next bill will be right. It never is. Hundreds of hours on the phone with them is enough for me. I'm done fighting with them. I guess part of the problem was that I had two phones. One I used for voice and one as a modem. The data phone I had on the "Unlimited" 80 dollar plan. Unfortunately, there is a 300 meg per month limit on the "Unlimited" plan and I kept going over. As a full time over the road trucker, it is my only way to connect to the internet and of course, I do way more than 300 megs a month. (Doppler radar weather maps, traffic cams, porn...wait....no porn!) It was not EVDO, of course, because I was using the 3g phone, but the speeds weren't bad and the coverage was pretty darn good. But, as I said, the limited/unlimited plan makes it useless to me. So, I switched to Verizon and now do the EVDO thing with a brand new Presario M2000 (kind of a cheap-o, but money is tight with three dollar a gallon deisel!) and a V620, but I am having nothing but trouble. Broadband connection keeps reverting to National coverage, even sitting still in the middle of a 100% broadband signal area. And the broadband area is very, very limited and there are huge gaps in National coverage where the phone works, but the data service is not available. (Like a 300 mile gap on Interstate 5 between Redding, CA and Eugene, OR on I-5.) As I move around constantly, I have found the Sprint data coverage was much better, but the limited total data was extremely frustrating. God, what a baby, right? (Mama, don't let your truckers grow up to be babies...) Question: is the Sprint limited/unlimited data service that I had different from the Sprint unlimited EVDO service, and if it is, is it truly unlimited? Not that I will keep my account with Sprint. The bill is just to messed up. Keep on truckin'! Dave

It wasn't a coupon - just a flyer, but here ya go...

Also seems to be semi-personalized - my name and address appear nowhere (except on the outer envelope) but it lists the address of my nearest local Sprint store.

Also... on rereading the flyer, it does mention "with qualified voice plan" in the fine print in the box to the left of the photos of the cards. Anyway, all I did was call, told them I got a flyer advertising the service at $59.99, but already had it at $80, and could I get my rate lowered. The agent figured out what plan I needed. He didn't say a thing about a voice plan, so either the "20 cents a minute on voice capable data cards" makes it "qualified", or like with Verizon (see posts elsewhere in this forum) it's just too new for them to know any better, so YMMV but good luck and let us know if you get yours lowered successfully.

Nowhere in any fine print could I find a mention of any limit to "unlimited".

As for your troubles with Sprint, I had them for voice for a while back when they were new (well, when they had just taken over Voicestream). Had the occasional billing issue, but it was always resolved (but only after very long waits to reach an agent). My reason for dropping them was that my phone would not work reliable the two places I used it most - home and work!

Anyhow, when I tried to get EV-DO from Verizon, they wanted a ridiculous deposit, plus the card would still have cost me $50 after hopefully getting a mail-in rebate. With Sprint the deposit was half of what Verizon wanted and the card was free. And apparently they've beefed up coverage in the past 7 years or so, because I've had no problems so far with the connection card. I dunno about voice - I'm using T-mobile for that and have no complaints so therefore no reason to change.

Thanks. The best part is that the worst part hasn't been delt with yet. I am not looking forward to the fight over the early termination fee. I figure with all the trouble every month, they should allow me to terminate without penalty. I just haven't mustered the energy for that fight yet. Soon. But, anyway, I wish I were smart enough to figure all this stuff out. Which company, which plan and which hardware for which areas?!! I appreciate all the help, but what I want is cheap, seamless, high speed connectivity. Why is that too much to ask? I want it all and I want it NOW! Wink

Yeah, Sprint used to have only 12-14,000 cellsites in 2000, less than Verizon. Now Sprint has over 24,000 cell sites, slightly more than Verizon. They just passed Verizon this year. And they are adding 14K CDMA more sites on existing Nextel iDen sites.

On the unlimited thing, I also can't find anything about any Sprint limitations of usage. I'm a heavy user on a Sprint laptop card and have had no extra charges. I also have a Treo 650 on Sprint, use 3 email accounts, streaming radio and browse on it often. Streaming radio downloads megabytes a day. Never had issues with unlimited access on that either. Unlimited does appear to mean unlimited on Sprint. I've heard Sprint does have terms about not using the card in a router but I couldn't find it.

I had nothing but trouble with data overage charges using the phone as a modem. Oh well, water under the bridge. Happy to have the data card.

Maybe deserttrucker's problem was that he was using a phone as a modem? I think unlimited is just for PC cards. I was reading on some other forum where people who were tethering their phones to get unlimited PC usage under the $10 "vision" plan were getting nastygrams from Sprint and even a few were being assessed per KB charges.

Ah yes, I did that for two years before they told me not Kosher. Got the retractable charger/data cable from Boxwave and the software from Future dial. Worked great until they realized that there was no way my phone's mini-browser could generate the data transfer numbers. It was 15 bucks a month for the vision plan. They made me buy the unlimited data plan for 80 bucks which they assured me was could be used with the phone as a modem. They even offered a data cable if I needed it. But, after months of extra charges for data overage (300 megs), I decided to switch to Verizon and get the card.

You know reading that fine print...it seems like the deal has changed ...

Before you could not get the 100 dollar credit on teh card unless you already had sprint...

I called to try to lower a new account that was recently created and they told me I needed to have a voice plan in order to qualify. Which makes sense, because that is stated in the promotional plan.
