alright, here's my situation. I have a novatel U727 with sprint mobile broadband service. i am about one half mile from the no service area on sprints coverage map. right now, i am getting about 500 to 700 kbps down and 60 to 150 kbps up. My signal strength is always between -93 and -103. I would like any suggestions on confiurations with amps, antennas or yagis. If you are in a situation like mine would you please give your thoughts? I do not have a direct line of sight to the nearest sprint tower, so a yagi most likey wil not work. i was looking at how many people have an antenna hooked up to an amplifier and they say it works pretty well. I just want to know some good advice for a fringe area like mine. _________________ - Henry |

Try some tweaks you can do at home before you start spending money on gear that may or may not help. Move the modem to a different location, use a USB extension cable to get it higher or closer to a good spot while observing the signal strength.
Build a antenna like the one found here: http://evdotips.blogspot.com/ and see if it helps.
Locate which tower you are getting the signal from and use a directional antenna in stead of a omni type if you are using this as a fixed connection.
A yagi, grid, or panel will give you a much stronger signal.
Do it one step at a time, you will save money and have a better connection. _________________ evdo-tips.com |

thanks for the advice. i made a can antenna like the one you suggested. it actually helps and i was a little surprised that it worked as well as it did. here are my results. before my speeds were about 500-700 down with 60-140 up and about -98 db. now, my download speeds show about 988kbps down and 230 kbps up. my rssi is now down to about -89! Thanks a lot for your help! i will definately be keeping my cantenna for a while. _________________ - Henry |
