Is there a way to periodically send AT commands to the USB modem once PPP connection has been established? I'm currently using pppd with connect/disconnect chat scripts.

What I'm looking for is a way to periodically query the signal strength with the AT+CSQ on the U727 card. I can issue the AT command when connecting, but would like to monitor it.

Thx

I believe you can get this from the second channel. You should have two devices:

ttyUSB0
ttyUSB1

0 is used for your PPP connection. 1 can be used to monitor signal strength among other things.
