I was tickled to be able to offer some input into this upgrade via my Mogul and the CTR 350. Its so great to be able to get card speeds out of a phone and then route it to wireless. Way cool.
My speed through the router is just the same as when I'm connected direct, and I get QOS to boot when my Fiance pops open her notebook too. About 2 megs down, and up to 500k up.
I was glad to see the HTC Touch also included. It came in second in my phone decision.
The special notes on the HTC Mogul point out that you must be careful to make sure the cord is connected and the phone charging. I would add that if you make sure nothing else is running, and hit that low power switch after its going that you'll be able to nicely charge up your phone while surfing, but if you leave some things running, it can just hold even and in rare cases discharge...that last is pretty hard to do though unless you leave the wifi switch on.

So far, so good. Does the GPS feature of the 727 or 595 work indoors (anywhere I can get a cell signal)?
Also it implies the 8889 port works from the inside, but does it also work on the EVDO or WAN side?
Note: the GPS page doesn't appear to require any login.
I've only had one small hiccup - I don't have a GPS EVDO modem, and when I accessed the GPS page to turn things on it reset, but that was a one-time thing.
The restore works again.
I'll probably order the PHS300 very soon (I assume 3gStore will upgrade the firmware).
Annoyance: I still have the javascrabble login which I can't automate nor does it remember which page I wanted when it instead sent me to login first, and it is still a "bounce" so I can't simply do a history back to reload the page. I'd like to be able to change the WLAN power from one click.
WishList: FTP, WebDav, network FS, or a simple http up/down server for the microSD slot in the EVDO modem.
I also noticed it does RNDIS for some phones (and my Nokia N810 supports gadget ethernet with a tweak)... |

The upgrade on my PHS300 looks good for the most part. The settings restore worked for the most part unlike the previous upgrade (password, IP address, etc worked) but it did not restore the SID. I had to update that manually. Very strange.
The release notes were great; all vendors should provide release notes like that! Thanks CP!! |

| 2.1.0 solved the problem with the Sprint EX720 for me. The last 2 versions of firmware killed the EX720 from working. |

So, I've never updated the firmware on my CTR350 since I bought it. It was running something like 1.62 previously.
Every time I had tried to upload updated firmware, the browser would time out.
Yesterday, I got around that by resetting the CTR350 to factory settings, then setting it RIGHT NEXT to the laptop, with the hope of ensuring a better connection, then trying the firmware upload again. That worked.
Since the upgrade, I seem to be holding a Sprint EVDO signal much more stably than previously (which is good, because it's my office internet).
(Novatel U720 is the modem I use.)
Also, it's very cool that I can use the ethernet port to connect my office computer to the EVDO connection, instead of over wifi! |
