|
|
My parents are using Alltel's broadband service at their place and I come down often to help my mom run her business. They are using a CradlePoint CRT350 and a Kyocera KPC680.
I haven't been down since last Thursday, but I noticed something strange today. It appears that Alltel is feeding out downgraded content from a caching proxy server.
Images on webpages are degraded (some are even mis-colored) and www.speedtest.net no longer works (I tried a couple more Internet speed tests and they don't work either).
Is this affecting anyone else? |

| Are they using Alltel's internet accelerator with IE? That's the only time I've seen downgraded images. I removed the accelerator after that. |

Nope, we are using the CRT350 router. Both desktop PCs have never had the Internet Accelerator installed.
Also noticed that when holding my cursor over an image, a new <img> tag has been injected to include a new 'alt' parameter. The mouse over text now reads "Shift+R improves the quality of this image"
Sure enough, when I press SHIFT+R, the image quality improves to its original. I've been reading around and it looks like Sprint has been using a similar proxy server for their mobile service the past couple of years. |

It started for me last night at about 3am. I confirmed it only happens on my computers using my alltel connection. It occurs in every browser over every operating system I have. I got really pissed at alltel when I found this and just gave up and went to bed. It seems not to be doing it now but if this is a new policy of theirs I'm going to be extremely upset and have some words for their customer service. I went with alltel because they assured me they would not restrict my data traffic in anyway. I can't possibly see how this would relieve network congestion because it just causes me to load the page twice, once for their crappy graphic version and then again to see it the way its supposed to be. |

You know, I saw that in your original post, yet it still didn't register that you had it on a router. Sorry about that.
I haven't seen this yet, but I'll take a look at it tonight when I get home to see if it's been implemented here. |

I know exactly what you mean, man. I worked from 8am to 11pm yesterday... when I got here and saw the blurry images in my web browser, I thought maybe my eyes were just tired. LOL! |

I know I saw something about this within the last day or two but can't remember whether I read it here or over on HoFo or whether it was Alltel or Sprint.
I haven't had this problem yet but will write down the IP if it does. Every once in a while I do get an odd IP that's some sort of proxy address and not one of the normal addresses. |

I know,
Today after recovering my MacBook I was very excited to be getting Alltel's service back in order (which cost me 50 bucks because I lost my software)!
Then I saw these blurry, disgusting images.
I've searched through the help, preferences, tried add-ons, I'm taking this to the alltel store tomorrow. |

mine is doing this too.
I just spent an hr running spyware virus crap. Its doing it on both my pcs, on both firefox and IE. I just found this, so the problem is fixed temp. Why would alltel do this, and especially without any sort of notice. Just when i was loving my service.. what gives? anyone got a fix? |

I was seeing this on a couple of pages over the weekend. I didn't notice any downgraded images at the time, although I did notice slowdown when it was looking for those addresses. I thought maybe this was due to my connection issues, but now I'm not so sure. |

How strange -- according to the whois by IP address those are Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) IP addresses. Can you do a traceroute?
I just rebooted and am still operating normally with normal IP addresses. |

| guess I am gonna wait to see what you alltel experts come up with. I'm exhausted with my efforts to figure it out. I hope this isn't some way to throttle bandwidth. |
