Forcing downgraded content?

Ok, I have a bit of a strange question, but bear with me:

What router do you have (if any), and what service does it show in the connection page (ie. Sprint, Alltel, etc).

I seem to remember that I saw this with my DLink, which shows me as Sprint when connected, when I was trying to figure out if the connection issues I'm having were router or card based. I'm back on my linksys, which allows me to set it as Alltel with OpenWRT.

I'm using the Linksys router with stock firmware (2.00.9) that always tells me I'm connected to Sprint but the IP addresses are Alltel's. I get the same IP address when I test at Speakeasy as shown on the router.

mine has been setup the same way since I have had it.. nothing has changed.. I noticed this last night.. but it could have started earlier because I normally play WoW and don't check webpages sometimes at all.

What do you get for your first hop in the traceroute? The IP won't be the same as your assigned IP but I'm wondering if you're getting an Alltel IP. My first hop is on 75.116.240.196 which is an Alltel internal IP.

Ok, that shoots my theory that we may have been going through a sprint gateway since most routers don't have alltel. I noticed it on forums I visited this weekend, but I'm also noticing that I'm not having the disconnect problems as bad the past couple of days - and I haven't seen the funny ip numbers these last couple of days either. I'll have to see if the connection problems return if I start seeing this again.

Mine is doing it again, but the images don't look degraded. They are definitely coming from a 1.1.1.x number, though.

Also, I can get to speednet. A user on HoFo is seeing it too, and says that Alltel is playing dumb.

Well, I tried some pages from here at the office that I had viewed at home this morning before work, and here's what I have found.

1. I'm only getting the 1.1.1.x messages here.
2. I'm not seeing a difference in image quality between either computer.

Both computers have their resolution at 1280X1024 with 32 bit color on a 19" LCD monitor. I cleared my cache out to insure I wasn't getting images cached on my pc before this started, and also visited sites I don't typically go to (I went to UFC.com to compare what I saw to a screen grab that someone had put on HoFo that clearly had downgraded images.).

Has anyone here been on xbox live since this has been noticed to see if it causes issues there? I haven't seen any problems with youtube or anything with flash video like espn, but I haven't tried online gaming.

I'm having the same problem. It started last night... at first I thought it was the web page I was on, but evidently not. I've the the afternoon off and am in a foul mood anyways, so I think I'm going to ruin the day of some alltel Tech Support person.

I find it curious that some are seeing bad quality images, and some aren't. I checked it over lunch, and I'm still seeing the same quality images I'm seeing on the DSL here at the office from a different provider.

if you contact alltel.. please post the results.. I never have good luck when I call.

this is not a huge game breaker for me (I game more than I surf) but.. it will be for my wife.. as she likes to look at photography websites... and pixellation just won't do

when i run speedtest.net with my card in the laptop desktop or kr1 I get disconnected every single time at the end of my upload. Havent noticed any bad graphics but It definitly is not running good. This has been going on since the weekend for me and is still happening. Wonder what there doing?
