| Just wondering if anybody around the Brookhaven-McComb area using EVDO? I am about 60 miles south of Jackson if anybody has any information on if it works in my area, with or without a booster. Thanks! |

I didn't see any user reports at EVDOmaps. If anyone from this area is currently using EVDO, please add your reports .
You can always have the EVDO Experts at 3Gstore.com check the coverage maps for Sprint & Verizon to see if it is reported as available in your area. Shoot 'em an email.... sales *at* 3gstore.com |

I live in Louisville about 2hrs north of jackson and I'm using alltel with 2-3 bars (3 if i set modem in window seal). Works good. I can play Halo 2 on xbox live keeping around 3 yellow or 4 green during entire gameplay.
I know i'm not in the area you're asking about but if I can get it here in the boonies then surely you can get it living in brookhaven!

| It appears as though jackson and the coast are the only 2 areas that have evdo according to the maps. But maybe they will get us going soon, all that is available to me now is 1xRTT service. 50-80k dload with 1000 lat is not any better than what i have. Maybe one day i can play wow like it is intended. |

I just drove though from Mobile to Hattisberg, to Jackson, and on to Vicksburg, and got EVDO Rev0 the whole way. I set roaming to automatic, and set my 727 to EVDO only mode. FWIW, It was roaming on AllTel, but non-the-less, I was pulling EVDO.

| I am in Meridian, it doesn't show up at first, but if I set my card to "evdo only" eventually I get a 4 bar evdo signal. Seems to be working pretty quick, but half the websites I try to access just time out for some reason. I can only access about half of Yahoo's content. If I switch back to 1xrtt, I can access those sites again. Setting my card back to automatic makes the evdo signal disappear. My guess is they are working on it. |

I live in philadelphia,ms and have 4 bars all the time and am always on rev 0. Hope we get rev a sometime soon. Good luck. I use a mbr1000 with a um150 card and it works great.
this test was a few minutes ago running a laptop off my mbr1000. _________________ alltelevdo |

In my experience this is the result of forcing your connection to Alltel roaming. The connection priority with all default settings is Sprint EVDO, Sprint 1xrtt, Alltel EVDO, and finally any 1xrtt that will accept the connection. When traveling I lock on to EVDO only which keeps it off Sprint 1xrtt unless nothing else is available. |

any idea how to fix the DNS issues (I assume this is the issue) when roaming on alltel? I can't get to my Yahoo mail account, and pretty much half of yahoo's content when roaming on alltel. It just times out. When I switch to sprint's 1xrtt I can access them. |

And I know that it's Alltel EVDO, because I read them having an agreement for Sprint to roam on Alltel's data all along I-10 from the MS Coast all the way to the panhandle. So perhaps there are different priorities for different areas. ... or perhaps I'm not getting true EVDO speeds. Hmm?? Alltel EVDO is worse than Sprint EVDO, I know that.

According to the Sprint coverage map, the EVDO signal still belongs to alltel.

When I made that post you just quoted, that was before they instituted the cap. We now only get 300 megabytes a month roaming, and from what I've heard, they are pretty hard nosed about it. So keep that in mind before you use the alltel signal. These days, when I'm in Mississippi, I just live with the 1xrtt signal. If you spend a lot of time down there, you'd probably be better off with alltel or Verizon. |

If you spend a lot of time down there, you'd probably be better off with alltel or Verizon. | I'm not doubting that the signal belongs to Alltel. I'm curious, now that Verizon has acquired Alltel, what happens to Alltel and Sprint's agreement to allow EVDO roaming on each others networks.
Also, where did you read the 300 mb per month roaming limit? I've heard differently. I know that I'm using Alltel's EVDO every day, with 1 or 2 GB of usage per month, and I have yet to get a letter, warning, threat, or anything of the sort.
As I said... I don't need to force my phone to use broadband. It just uses Alltel EVDO on its own, because that was the priority during agreement time. I'd just really like to know when this agreement will come to an end, if ever. I hear that Alltel customers are going to start receiving Verizon bills very shortly, so it'd be awesome to know whether I can keep roaming or not. |
