Well the first thing you have to no is which service you will be using. IE "Alltel, Sprint, Verizon etc" .. The next is what type of card do you need. Regular pcmcia or the express card "prob this" or a usb dongle . Alltel / Verizon: Check the KPC680 "Express card" Verizon: USB720 "I use this personally". Like it as I can plug in to laptop or desktop easily.

SERVICE: This depends on your coverage in your area. For instance I heard people and friends say they like Alltel. Problem for me was the signal I was able to get for Alltel limited me to a slow speed of 130KBS. I switched to verizon and now get 4-6x that. I hear a lot of good things about Sprint too. One of them is that there service is truly unlimited "Uploads/downloads". Verizon and I believe Alltel both have a 5GB of data per month cap. Hope that helps!

Ryan

I currently have Sprint. I use the PPC6800 phone and have the REVA feature built in it. Where I live I am getting about 1.5mbps down and 400 up. However, I travel alot and I do get my faster speeds on my phone in other cities.

I would like to upgrade to the $59.95 package for unlimited data and purchase a card.

I am ok with any type. Are there any reviews or comments I can read regarding the SPRINT cards? I could not find any searching this site.

Looks like the U727 is the best.

Why would you need a card or a modem at all if you got a Rev A Mogul? Just tether that to your laptop. Tethering a PPC is cheaper than a whole new data plan for an additional card, and the performance would be comparable with the Mogul's RevA upgrade.

Only reason I'd consider a new data plan is if the modem was built into the computer, or the phone was Rev 0, then you have the convienience of not having to mess with cards. You can set that up as an RNDIS connection that comes up when the machine is booted. Boot-n-browse. But aside from that I'd just use the Rev A phone.

1.) I had the option to order the card built in. I did not want to do that becuase I wanted to have the ability to change cards and services if need be in the future.

2.) What a disaster the PPC6800 has been for tethering. I am paying the PAM $39.99 a month. It works ok with my work XP PRO laptop. I tried it on my VISTA computers and I have 3 of them at home and NO GO.

Thanks,
