Did I miss something in my search or did I uncover something new? In a tech support c all a while back a Sprint tech rep stated a Sprint Mac Connection manager was on the way in a few weeks. I checked back and found almost that. The installer works for 10.4 and 10.5 and places a new driver (modem type) of EVDO support in the lib folder and a few Sprint Apps: Sprint Activation Utility and Sprint Location & Search.
Using the EVDO modem type, I have lost my signal strength menu in the menu bar and I am not sure if I can get it back. Connection speed was almost instant compared to 5-10 sec with modem type WANN setting.
Using the GPS, I was able to connect to my marine nav software macENC as in the screenshot below. Note settings, esp. port setting.
