I am using a Sprint EVDO aircard and I do not appear to be within EVDO coverage. The aircard displays 1xRTT. When I click on Device Info & Diagnostics it states: "You are not currently within the EV-DO high speed network but are being provided a data service with reduced throughput." I am able to listen to Sirius Satellite Radio online, which I was not able to do when I had a 1xRTT aircard. Does this mean that it is on the same network as pure 1xRTT aircards, but is operating faster than 1xRTT aircards? I am using a mobile antenna with a magnetic mount on a pizza pan in a hotel room.
Also, I did not realize until this afternon that there is a GPS device with a locator service. Are there any additional charges for using this? |

It is possible that the radio stations you were streaming previously had higher bandwidth requirements, or your previous 1xRTT connection was not as strong as where you currently are. 1xRTT has a maximum throughput of 144kbps.
There are no additional charges for the GPS services, but you must be in a native Sprint 1xRTT or EVDO coverage area to use these services. |

You know now that I think about it I may have tried XM Satellite Radio online before, rather than Sirius Satellite Radio. Here is what the Sirius website shows for recommendations, but it doesn't actually say that it won't work with 1xRTT either.
What are the basic hardware and software requirements for using the SIRIUS website?
For the best experience, we recommend:
* PC – Windows 2000, XP and above.
* Mac – OS 9.0 or higher.
* Connection Speed – ISDN or higher.
* Browser – Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Firefox 1.5 or higher, Safari 1.0 or higher, and Netscape 8 or higher.
* Flash – version 7.0 or higher. For the best experience, please download the latest version.
* Windows Media Player – Windows Media Player Version 9 or greater is required. Download it here.
What are the hardware and software requirements for the media player?
To listen to our music channels online, we recommend a high bandwidth internet connection (T1, DSL or ISDN line, or a cable modem), Windows Media Player version 6.0 or higher, and either Netscape 7.x or Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher. Unfortunately, we are unable to fully support other browsers at this time.
Here is from XM Radio:
System Requirements
XM Radio Online is available to both PC and Mac users. Different system configurations will yield different results. We recommend the following system configurations:
PC:
Internet Connection: Broadband
Processor: Pentium III 1 GHz
Memory: Minimum 256 MB RAM, minimum 64 MB Video RAM
Operating System: Windows XP
Sound: Soundcard w/ speakers or headphones
Additional Software: Windows Media Player 10, Flash 7
Browser Compatibility: Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 1.0+, Netscape 7+ (Opera not supported); cookies must be enabled |
