|
|
I have two Macs and a Windows XP box that are on my wireless network. The Macs always connect flawlessly but the XP box very rarely connects to the network. It's not a matter of signal strength as I've moved the router as close to the PC as possible, yet it still doesn't work.
I'm using a Netgear WG111 as my network. Are there any other reports of this happening? |

or call the guys in tech support? |

| Are you using Netgears software or Windows Wireless Zero configuration? |

| I've used both pieces of software to no avail. I've switched SSID names, enabled WPA, and deleted and re-added the network as a favorite multiple times. |

1. What router are you trying to connect to? Brand/Model
2. What error message do you receive when trying to connect in the Netgear software
3. What error message do you get when trying to connect via Windows?
Note: It could possibly be the adapter you are using...I've seen a few similar related issues with that exact same brand/model of netgear adapter. |

1. Cradlepoint CTR-350 Running 2.0.1
2. and 3. I don't get any error messages. It just sits there and doesn't connect at all.
My dad's basically giving me an ultimatum of fix it or it's going back. At this point, I'm ready to go back to dial-up. |

so, the speeds from EVDO are not enough to warrant getting a new WiFi adapter for the XP box? dialup is OK with you?
wow. 1200k down, but you may need new wifi adapter.
or dialup.
wow.
i'd dump the whole XP box and get another mac.
but. thats me. |

Ok, the speeds are great. No doubt about it. Right now, my parents probably aren't willing to spend another $40 for something that should have worked with the adapter to begin with.
And I would get a Mac Mini, but once again, we don't have $600 to burn. |

Thought about that, but I don't think it's a very good signal as the computer is in the basement. Worth a try, I suppose.
EDIT: My download speed was cut by more than a third and my upload speed was cut by more than a fourth. |

xp box is in the basement and router upstairs? What signal strength do you have when you hover over the network icon in the tray? _________________ evdo-tips.com |

It's about 60% signal strength.
My dad said he's willing to get a new adapter, so we'll see how that turns out. |

open a cmd prompt and try a ipconfig /renew followed by a ipconfig /all and see what you have _________________ evdo-tips.com |

| I've done that and it still didn't help. I think I'm just going to go out and buy a new adapter since there have apparently been issues before. Never really liked this adapter anyways... |
