this may be a stupid question.
I currently have a dell XPS m1330 and have the Verizon EVDO minicard inside.
my current phone is from sprint (HTC Mogul) and it have the the unlimited EVDO plan. the phone uses a SIM card.
if I get a the Sprint EVDO minicard for my laptop. can I just take the card from my phone and put it on the laptop and have mobile boardband access on the laptop? (I don't care about the text/voice part. I'm happy if it it works wiht the highspeed wireless data) |

Sprint and Verizon do not use SIM cards for any of their CDMA based handsets.
Some phones that are international GSM capable have a SIM card slot (and may have a SIM in it) but this is only for roaming on GSM networks outside of the United States.

opps my bad. I must have got confused with T-Mobile.
ok here's another question then..
If I get the EVDO minicard for my laptop.
and I open up a new phone line/plan with sprint that has evdo.
can I call up sprint and have the connection access transfered to my laptop minicard? (I don't really care that I'm giving up the voice part ) |

Not really. You can open an unlimited data card account @50-60/month but that would not have voice.
Even if you could swap a voice line with PAM to a card the cost would still be nearly as much as a datacard alone at $40/month for PAM. The exception would be the BB at $40/month for phone and PAM. But, I don't think the swap would work as they are different types of devices.

The only Sprint phone that I'm aware of that has the ability to use a SIM card is the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition.
Also, the embedded EVDO aircards don't use SIM cards & no CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) aircard uses a SIM chip either. |

But PAM would be another $40/month on that plan.

To get PAM you need to have a voice account, then pay $40 for PAM. You would also find the phones do not handle data at the same speeds as a EVDO Rev A data card (which yours should be depending on when you bought it). PAM is also less convenient because of the need to attach the laptop to your phone constantly and charge the phone at the same time because PAM drains the phone battery so quickly.
Nice box, the M1330. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |
