Think twice about the KR1. It was a great router a year ago but it's been discontinued and is now more-or-less unsupported. There are also plenty of people who have had problems with the KPC680/adapter/KR1 combination even though the router is said to support the KPC680 -- just search around the forum (cath-ode being the most recent person to have problems).
If you need to keep the total cost down think about getting the UM150 USB card and the CradlePoint CTR350 router ($149) from 3Gstore (they also have a good return policy). If you really want the KPC680 -- spend the extra $80 and get either the new KR2 or the CradlePoint MB1000.
My preference is to buy the air card first (local Alltel) and see how your signal is then buy the router. |

| oh really im glad u said something i didn't know that router was bad...and yea i was gonna get the card long before ordering a router. I think there is a 15-day trial period. I think the 680 card is better tech than the usb adaptor, ami right? |

I think it's six of one, half dozen the other.
The biggest plus for the USB device is it's flexibility -- it's easy to use it with a desktop and you can use an extension cable to locate it away from the computer where the signal might be better. On the other hand, if you travel with a laptop that has an express card slot and you use a router at home the express card makes sense too.
Sorry, not much help there. If you want the least cost solution the UM150/CTR350 is it. Both are good products. |

| well i don't actually have an express card slot, its the old PCMIA slot, but thats what that adapter is for. Currently I can use any device i use on my wireless network with ICS, but i want the best device for internet, with the cheapest price for a router than it can directly connect 2, but the EVDO device is my highest priority. I can get both the USB and the Card EVDO for free, so i'm mostly searching for the better device. (plus i think the card looks better than usb thing and the usb one can be knocked out of my laptop which would be bad) |
