How, exactly, to I activate my UM150 with Alltel?

I currently have a KPC650 and 14 months remaining on my contract with Alltel.

I want to switch over to this slightly used UM150 I've purchased. I don't want to get dinged with additional monthly fees, just want to keep paying as I am.

How exactly do I activate the UM150?

Can I just move the simm card from the KPC650 to the UM150?

Is there some way to keep the KPC650 as a cold spare for the UM150?

Thanks.

The first step is to call Alltel and have them do an ESN swap (only GSM devices have sim cards). You can have them walk you through the computer activation, too, which I think is similar to the process you followed in the beginning. You do not have to extend your contract to swap cards, so if you get someone who says you do, hang up and call back.

You can keep the KPC650 as a spare -- you'd just swap the ESN again if you needed to. I think Alltel may have a limit on the number of times you can swap an ESN per year but I'm not certain.

Thanks, karlyn.

I called Alltel Customer Service (800-255-8351) and the guy graciously swapped my ESN, no questions asked.

He told me bring up the Activation window, to put my cell number in the phone number field and IMSI field and gave me a code for the SID. I did the "Activate" thing, it succeeded, and my UM150 promptly came up and started working.

Took all of maybe 5 minutes. Almost too easy.

The UM150 already seems faster than the KPC650 I was using.

Next I need to get it moved over to the CTR350 but that will probably have to wait until tomorrow. Yawn.
