|
|
After many trials and errors and a talk through with the 3G staff I have found that it was the router and not my computer that did some funny stuff.
I have updated the router to the current firmware which is 2.0.1.
I have the router connected through the Ethernet port to my uncle's computer upstairs so he can have access to the internet when the modem is connected to the net. The mode used by the Ethernet port is set to LAN so he can access the internet. Other than that, nothing else is changed from factory settings with the Ethernet port.
I have tried using Channels 1, 7, and 11 with no help at all, and I'm thusly assuming that trying other won't help either.
I have reset the the router to factory default settings and still no help.
I thought it was because I had weak signal reception that kept cutting me off from the computer and making me reset the connection to the wifi router. I put my computer right next to the router and it still did it. To be more specific it doesn't disconnect me from the router (I have good signal) I just can't download anything until I reset the connection.
Then I stumbled across something by mistake. It turns out that if my uncle's computer is on and active the connection won't be cut off! And almost as soon as I turn it off my connection to not only my computer but my wii as well will disconnect after about 5 minutes.
So I started to keep a log of every time I got disconnected and one thing kept constantly popping up. (I've set all IP addresses to 0.0.0.0 for privacy reasons.)

The LAN Ethernet Carrier Lost thing would happen every time unless my uncle's computer was on as well. What could be causing this?
I've already talked with 3G and they are sending me a new unit for free however I've spent so much time and energy into this I want to see if anyone has an answer to the problem or if anyone else is experiencing being disconnection like me. _________________ Roflcoptor! |

| Is your uncle's computer connected directly to the router or through a hub/switch? If it's connected directly, then you might need a crossover cable between the router and your uncle's computer. Some computer ethernet ports cannot handle a direct PC to PC link without a crossover cable and could be the reason for this behavior. |

My uncle's computer is hooked up via an Ethernet cable. The cable runs out from his Ethernet port on the back to the WAN port on the router itself. My uncle's computer is not the problem; it works fine all the time. The problem is with every other computer connected via Wifi. Unless my uncle's computer is on then I will constantly have to repair my connection to the router in order to download anything again.
Where could I obtain a crossover cable and is it complicated to hook up? I'm going to be upset if this happens again because I spent 20 bucks to send that router back with insurance and receive a new one. _________________ Roflcoptor! |

Crossover cables are only needed when you're connecting like-layer devices (PC NICs and standard hubs are layer 1; switches are layer 2; routers are layer 3, etc).
What carrier are you using? Even though your hardware may be the problem, your issues are consistent with dormancy - which Alltel is notorious for even though I'm yet to experience this issue since implementing my 350. |

I received a new router and it did the exact same thing. I'm going to try and call 3G and see if I can get refunded the amount it cost to send the old router back to them.
On the bright side, I have found out how to remedy the problem on my own. It turns out that I need to set the Ethernet port back to use as a WAN port rather than a LAN port and everything goes fine.
Why is this happening with the router? I'm just glad that I fixed it but changing the Ethernet port around is kind of annoying to do every time I get on. _________________ Roflcoptor! |
