|

I am a full time Rver, traveling throughout the US. I have read a several posts here from RVers, and Sprint seems to be the most often recommended by them for EVDO.
For me the most important issue is having the most 1x coverage area, as many rural areas don't have EVDO, and some data is better than no data. From my comparison of coverage maps, it looks like Sprint (with “roaming”) covers more area than Verizon or Alltel. Areas that Sprint shows better 1x coverage are in WV, the MI upper peninsula, north WI, Grand Canyon area, east KY.
Does my interpretation of the Sprint coverage seem accurate?
Assuming I am correct about the Sprint coverage, my remaining concern is the Sprint terms, which says: “Sprint may terminate service if ... a majority of data kilobytes in a given month are used while roaming.”
Any comments on this policy?
Is there a way to know how much roaming use I have during the current billing cycle? |

| A substantial part of the "with roaming" coverage you're seeing on the Sprint maps is Alltel coverage. Sprint and Alltel have a nice EvDO roaming agreement. Where do you think you'd be most of the time -- native Sprint or native Alltel? |

Overall the use mix could go either way, my travel is too random. That is why I was thinking the largest data (with 1x) footprint would be good.
The few places I hang out for extended periods I usually have faster data options that I use primarily. |

I travel fulltime in a motorhome (nine years so far) and I use a Sprint air card with a router, amplifier and booster antenna. Since I got my setup last May I have traveled in 26 states and have often been in the boonies. There have been only two places I did not have a connection and overall, I have been happy with the speeds.
I leave the air card in the router and it is turned on 24/7. I have never been charged extra for roaming. Matter of fact, I have never heard from Sprint since I bought the air card. |

| I've heard of 50% roaming limits for voice but I don't think anyone has reported problems with over 50% data roaming. However if stationary and I didn't live in a Sprint native area, I'd probably not use Sprint if planning to roam 100%. |

I am way interested to hear what others have experienced.
My use is generally not large, however, until recently, I have been roaming 100% of the time.
It seems Sprint just added EVDO Rev0 to my area. Although they deny it, I can connect with roaming turned off, and get a different tower than when I roam. RevA pops up every so often (and when it does, it kicks me off, and I cannot connect till it goes away). I am about 100+ miles to the nearest RevA service. My best guess is they are going turn it on.
Anyway, I have not been kicked (yet) for a 100% roam.

Thanks, this gives me confidence.
When you are in the boonies, do you end up with 1x? often? |

Yes, I guess I get 1X about 70% of the time in the boonies. But it is always fast enough to do email and surf the net. |

So MAY is the key word in “Sprint may terminate service if ... a majority of data kilobytes in a given month are used while roaming.” Apparently they haven't so far, and hopefully won't in the next 2 years. I will probably take the chance, as I won't be over 50% every month. |

Well I'm not sure how a 50% data roaming limit would work since it's unlimited.
If someone downloads 5GB native and 3GB roaming for a month, it would be OK. But then if the next month was 1GB native and 2GB roaming, it would not be OK?
I'm not sure they could even come up with a roaming limit as long as they call the service unlimited. |

That would be my interpretation of their terms, "a majority of data kilobytes". Stupid, yes. I could just download huge files when on the native netowrk to give me a bigger allotment when roaming. That would be bad for Sprint, putting a bigger load on their network. |
