Thanks for the info so far. |
It's a little early to tell about issues with KR2 in the field since it is just now being sold. On KR1, there were issues uncovered in the field that were never seen while the product was being tested prior to being sold and most of those were not reproducible. This is especially true when WiFi connections are involved because WiFi signals are greatly impacted by then environment in which the router is operated. That being said, KR2 has an n radio which will work much better than KR1's g radio in almost every circumstance. Additionally, the radio is WiFi Alliance certified for use with Windows XP and Vista.
Concerning connection drops, KR1 was not terribly smart when that situation occurred. It did try to detect and redial/recover from the situation but not always with success. My personal experience on KR2 thus far shows that to be much better, but again, it's too early to pass judgment one way or the other. As Alex stated in the review, KR2 works much better than KR1 did.
Also, there is no reason to use KPC680 with KR2 via a USB adapter. It has an ExpressCard slot so why not use it? |

Thanks Mackieman - I wil probably have to lean towards getting the KR2 as of now since I can not find a solution to stop the KR1 from droping/losing connectiong and needing a powercycle.
thanks for the help and info |

I am happy that CradlePoint has responded to all your tech support calls (unlike the disaster you had reported with Kyocera(?) tech support), and also big kudos to CradlePoint for not using offshore tech support (so far).
Many experienced users (including myself) have reported good things about calling CradlePoint tech support.
But I gotta wonder...
Why would so many experienced users need to call tech support?
I own something like 14 other routers, and I have never needed to contact tech support, that is, until I purchased CradlePoint products.
Just a point to ponder.

Joe,
I probably should qualify my statement. When I say I contacted tech support, it wasn't for a help type situation as we would normally think of it. I used Alex for that ! All my contacts except one were in the suggestion and bug reporting mode. Either way Cradle Point has been at least in my case and others I've seen very responsive.
I think you and most agree that "most" tech support calls aren't made by "experienced " users. More like those new to the arena. Actually what is an "experienced" user lol? I've rarely had to call any tech supports for anything, but of the ones I have Cradle Point was the most pleasant and productive.
I guess you might say I was an experienced satellite driver, for 5 years, yet there were times I had to call tech support, not do to any fault or ignorance on my part, but on THEIRS! So I guess there are rare times even the experienced users must make that dreaded call. With most companies excluding Cradle Point there is a prerequisite to be able speak other languages too. |

Crap its been ages since i have posted here....
So whats the suggestion this KR2 or the MBR-1000, I see that many updates have come out for the MBR-1000, how about the KR2, since I would venture to guess that only a few things are different between the two routers id expect them to both have near the same firmware release dates?
Anyone wanna comment on this? and also a family member has an "old school" (as used in the MBR-1000 review) Data card, so if i leave id want them to be able to use it.
Another thing im reading is that D/C handling has improved, well how much? I have to login to the WebUI every day or every other day to reboot the damn thing due to it disconnecting and not reconnecting, that or it reconnects but i still don't have internet....
THX for any informed USER reviews and suggestions that you guys can offer! |

Totally anecdotal, but I "installed' my dad's KR2 on April 10 and it has been up continuously without requiring a manual reboot or reconnect since then. Either it is not dropping or it is automagically reconnecting as I feel pretty sure my dad would call the second he lost internet. He lives on my farm so I am the default Mr Fix It for any and all things that go wrong... Should have thought about that before I told him he could build a house here. _________________ --Larry |
