Hi, Just got my Novatel installed, and did a speed test on testmy.net did not bother with upload but download was terrible, 78 kbps. I am in a 1x area speeds are supposed to be 150kbps? The signal strength shows low, but if i put my cell phone in the same spot as the pc card the signals right of the top.Is there a way to tweak this modem? Do you think something is wrong with the installation?
I shut down all other wireless connections before this test because i have satellite internet still hooked up (trying to say goodbye to it)I had this setup in town with enhanced service and i was very fast..should i complain to my provider? |

1xRTT speeds peak at about 140-150. when I had 1x I average around 100kbps which was pretty good. The average seems to be around 70 to 80. Many times I've seen way different data signal strength compared to the voice signal strength. maybe someone will chime in with a tweak I'm not aware of, but don't ever expect 1x to run at a sustained 150kps. it won't happen. When you say very fast while in town, what is very fast?? |

I was in my choppy truck on a major highway close to town with EVDO enhanced it was so fast when i hit enter for a page i would look to see if it was loading and it was done before my eyes focused..i mean it was lightning fast...now i am at home and its a little better thab dialup..i am thinking on keeping it because satellite speeds are terrible and they are always down in the rain...when its raining is when i want the net.I am told the software that comes with the U720 is not vista compatible..so i am downloading onto a XP laptop now will report back. First don't compare it to your satellite and rain. Rain should not affect the signal like it does the sat which I had for 5 years.
what it sounds like to me is that your home is in a 1xRTT area whereas in town it is evdo (broadband). the speeds you describe to me are indicative of 1x speeds. How far from town are you and what provider?? |

| yes i believe my prob is i am in a 1xRTT area that is what my connection shows, and my signal strength is good, EVDO tower is 25 kms away by line of sight. I am thinking of trying to bypass the 1XRTT tower and shoot for the high speed EVDO with a directional Yagi...Make any sense?[/b] |
