Your PRL is outdated. You should have 40036. Go to corolada.com/prl and download it. It's at the bottom left under the Alltel PRL list and then DISCONNECT from the internet. After DISCONNECTING, with the QLM window open on your screen, hold down "Ctrl D". When the window opens asking for your password enter 000000 (6 zeros) and when the next window opens type the same 000000 (6 zeros) for the activation code and at the bottom browse to where you saved the 40036 PRL and double click on it. Then click "OK" and let it reset, telling you it was successful, and voila. Then look under Help>About and it should show the new PRL as 40036.
You're getting really good speeds but this PRL may possibly give you a boost. If not you can always download the one you have now and repeat the same procedure to load it back. |

Hi Bigdave,
Thanks for the info. Even though I was extremely nervous I did what you said and did 3 tests right after updating:
down 946 kbs
up 88 kbs
ping 277 ms
second:
down 1009 kbs
up 124 kbs
ping 307 ms
third:
down 1021 kbs
up 111 kbs
ping 282 ms
So far looks like about the same speeds, maybe even a little more. I will test it again tomorrow.
I ordered my cradlepoint 1000 something router today and I already got the tracking number. Actually it came within the hour of ordering it! Way to go 3gstore! Looks like it will be here Monday
Thanks. |

Wow! Look what I got this morning:
down 1520 kbs
up 113 kbs
ping 289 ms
I didnt even know speeds like that were possible! I sure hope they last.
Thanks Bigdave, seems like updating the PRL did help. |

Careful! When I first started service a year ago I could easily hit 1,900 or 2,000 on speed test downloads early Saturday or Sunday morning and I could routinely hit 1,700-1,800 midday on a weekday. Lately I've been lucky to hit anything greater than 1,270. It was kind of disappointing when my test speeds dropped but I really don't notice it too much when browsing or working.
| ps1914 wrote: | | karlyn, that does concern me that your speeds decrease as more people begin using EVDO. Before I used hughes satellite I had a high speed wireless connection from town (not even sure what the technology was called) and I was considered to be on the outer fringe of the service and it worked fine for awhile, until more and more people got on it and I completely lost my service. It was so disappointing! Sad It was either go back to dial up or go to satellite at that time, so I've had hughes for about 2 years now. So now I am in the 14 day testing period for EVDO before my 2 year contract kicks in Shocked I sure hope it continues to work well for me. I am getting real tired of having to find new ways to get high speed out here! Like I said I am only about 3 miles from town but it is a very small town (maybe 1200?) so I hopefully I'll be ok. |
Hopefully Alltel will add another T1 line or two if things get really congested. Advertised speeds are 400-700 kbps and I can't complain right now (literally) since I'm normally way above the advertised speed. Besides, it's still much faster than dial up and it's not satellite! |

My MBR1000 router is on the truck for delivery today! Wow!
Ok, now I need to figure out how to hook it up when it comes. I just read on the forum that it doesnt come with a manual, is that right? Yikes! I am not very techie when it comes to setting up stuff like this.
I already have the QuickLink Mobile software installed on my main desktop, the one I am currently using the UM150, plugged directly into right now. My question is, do I still need this software on this computer once I plug the UM150 into the router? I know the lady at the Alltel store said I will need to install the QuickLink Mobile software on every computer I use it on, but does that also apply to networked computers? I would think the router somehow dials it out and not each computer, right? I hope this makes some sort of sense. LOL I just want to get it hooked up quickly and correctly so we can test all this equipment out while still in our grace period, so to speak LOL |

karlyn, we posted about the same time! Yes, I am very happy with these speeds now as I know they only advertised it to me as 700 so I wont complain if it does drop some. And you are right, I probably wont notice much of a difference as I dont play games and such, I just build websites. Anything is better than satellite, with the exception of dial up of course |

You probably won't have much problem since it sounds like you're already networked otherwise. Start with the simplest approach (the tip sheet does help) and plug the UM150 into the MB1000 and connect one computer via ethernet cable and go from there.
You won't need the software on your desktop to connect when the card is in the router -- the card has all the information it needs onboard. But you'll need the QLM software on your computer if you want to update the PRL, etc. (so don't uninstall it). |

Thanks karlyn! That makes me feel better. I have been doing some more reading and see that Alltel isnt listed here under their supported devices:
http://www.cradlepoint.com/techsupport/mbr1000support.php
I got the link off this forum. Is it just not updated? I made sure when I called the 3G store guys they knew I had Alltel. I have the UTStarcom UM150 from Alltel. Geez, I pray there wont be any problems. LOL can you tell I am not techie? |

| Your UM150 will work just fine in your shiny new MBR1000. Many are using that combo. |

Ok, I got it and tried to set it up and failed miserably I told you I wasnt techie. This is what I did so far:
I followed the quick start guide it came with. Did step one, plug in the power cord to the 1000, went to step 2 and confused me already. Neither option sounded right, as I just wanted to be able to wire 3 computers into the LAN1, LAN2, etc, so I just ended up connecting the UTStarcom UM150 to the 1000, using the USB port on the side (didnt know whether I was supposed to use the side or back USB port?), went to step 3b, connected my ethernet cord that was already on my desktop into the LAN1 port on the back of the 1000 and then plugged in the power, as I didnt see when I was supposed to do that either. I skipped step 4 as I am not really interested in the wireless internet access at this point, but 3gstore also warns me to skip step 5 so I did, went to step 6, thinking that means if I open up Internet Explorer, it will ask me for a password, well it didnt and it didnt load either.
I am thinking I would have to put something into the cradlepoint admin so that it would know how to communicate with my UM150, right? But I'll be darn if I know what or where to put it. LOL I found one area in admin called WAN that looks like it might be the area (but then I didnt hook into the WAN port either??). The first box is CELLULAR MODEM PPP AUTHENTICATION (OPTIONAL) and asks for a username and password, which I dont think I got from my ALLTEL provider. The second box is WIRED WAN CONNECTION TYPE it asks for ISP and ALLTEL isnt listed except ALLTEL DSL, which isnt right. I have no idea what the internet connection type means here either. The 3rd box is DYNAMIC IP (DHCP) CONNECTION TYPE and none of that makes a lick of sense to me.
I did update the firmware using the CD 3gstore provided, as I figured it might be important to do since they include it on their own. I had version 1.0, updated to 1.1, then to the most recent 1.1.1
BTW, I am doing this on a new computer with Vista (which I am not familiar with yet and dont really like yet) Of course it popped up and set up a new Network 2 connection and I havent done anything with that either.
Ok, can someone tell me what I am supposed to do to get this working right? Sorry I am just not a techie at all. If I can plug it in and it works right out the box, I'm good to go. Otherwise I need step by step. Seems like they would have included a manual, but not sure it would help me anyway as this doesnt seem set up for ALLTEL. I would really appreciate any help. |

I don't have the MBR1000 yet therefore don't know the specific steps you're referring to however . . . . as long as you've activated and used your UM150 on another computer then I would assume the MBR1000 is like the others in that all you need to do is plug the card into the router (either USB port is fine), power it up and voila, it's connected. Remember, it'll take a few seconds to connect to the EVDO network just like it does when plugged directly into your PC.
Shouldn't have any Alltel info to enter as that's all stored in the modem/device.
Be sure you've plugged your PC into the LAN1 port and you should be set to go aside from needing to set up security via WEP or whatever you choose to use.
As far as being set up for Alltel, the router doesn't know nor does it care what carrier you're using as long as you're using a supported device. (For the most part anyway . . . ) Your Alltel UM150 works fine in the MBR1000. Many are using this very setup already. Just be patient . . . . it'll work. |

Thanks, Bigdave. I did find some more details on the UM150 modem through the 1000 admin and yes, it does detect its phone number and everything so that is showing up alright. I just still dont have internet. It could be Vista too I dont know.
I found under logs all kinds of blocked transmission requests so something is going on, what I dont know. LOL
I will go ahead and post in the MBR1000 section and see if someone can help me there.
Thanks |

And if all else fails, you can give 3G a call on Monday. I assure you, talking to them is like no other customer service experience you've had before They talked me through my settings and set up, and were extremely patient with me...twice!
Sorry I can't help you either, I'm using the 350. But I know you will get it working. Glad to see your getting some really nice speeds, too. |

Ok, tried setting it up again to and lo and behold! It worked. I shouldnt have skipped step 4, as someone pointed out to me in the MBR1000 section of the forum duh, didnt think it was necessary since I wasnt doing a wireless set up but for Windows obviously it was LOL
It works now but I just have to figure out how to improve my speeds now. Should I expect speeds will be considerable lower because I now have it running through an wired ethernet line? I havent moved it around much yet and I havent figured out this silly SSDR button that is supposed to show me the signal strength it is getting. I cant seem to get that to work yet.
this is what I just got, about a 1/3 of what i had plugged directly into my computer:

| Yup. Try moving it around to find the sweet spot. Speeds should be the same in or out of the router. |
