Hi Group,
Im a newby to this group. I, like alot of the users, live in a remote area with no DSL or cable company internet service capabilities....
I do have Verizon internet via the AudioVox PC5740 card. I seem to live on the fringe edges of two towers, so connection speed is either very fast or somewhat fast but rarely snail slow.
We have a mother-in-law house about 200 feet from the main house. Would the Kyocera KR1 work with the distance for either house? Is there a Wireless "N" version available or very nearly available that would be better ( I can wait a LITTLE while for it), or even another manufacturere (available from the 3Gstore) that would be a better choice? By the way, I have conduit between the houses, so running a CAT5 cable is no problemo... From posts seen here, purchase from 3G seems the better purchase point for support.... although I've seen the KR1 less expensive.... but I live by the credo, "you get what you pay for" and this also relates to after sales support.
Thanks in advance for your reply,
Rudy |

Rudy,
The KR1 is going to be the most compatible router for the PC5740 card, however you will want to disable the wifi on the KR1 so as to not allow "leakage" of the EVDO card into the wifi radio of the router.
This will give you the best stability with your EVDO connection. As for the connection to the Mother-In-Law home, run the Cat 5, that is going to be your best connection. If you still need wifi out of the deal, purchase a simple off the shelf wifi router to connect via ethernet, and use the wifi to connect to the internet that is being hosted by the EVDO card in the KR1;-)

I used an Alltel PC5740 for well over a year with the KR1 without having to disable the wifi and never had one iota of a problem. My KR1 was rock solid and one of the best investments I ever made. Paid right at $200 (bought it through 3GStore of course) and Ebayed it for $150 over a year later since I upgraded to a card not supported by the KR1. Pretty good money spent IMO. |

Thanks for the replies....
Victor, now the question is should I get or can only get the KR2 instead and will it still work with my AudioVox?
Looking to buy within the next 2 weeks.
Thanks,
Rudy |
