I'm becoming fully convinced that my router has taken on an AI and has set out to do nothing but make trying to use the internet a total nightmare.
It's issuing everyone the same IP address, causing countless problems.
It drops computers at random times for no apparent reason, but seems more common when an attempt to upload a packet is made.
It will also disconnect for no apparent reason if too many packets are sent through it.
The EVDO card seems to just up and lose connection but maintains its IP address. (Only in the router)
The router has to be rebooted at a bare minimum of 10-15 times a day.
I've tried every imaginable thing under the sun to fix it. From countless firmware upgrades, screwing with every setting, defaulting everything... No matter what nothing even seems to have an effect on any of the problems. They always seem to happen the exact same way as they did before. Happens with every computer that connects to the router as well.
And it's not the card's fault, it works amazingly well in my crappy old laptop.
I spent 3 hours trying to get my router let me stay connected to it for more than 10 minutes, yesterday. I'm fed up with it. Can someone please help!? _________________ Merlin S720 |

I'm thinking since the post is in the LinkSys 3G Router WRT54G3G-ST Support Forum he might be referring to the LinkSys WRT54G3G-ST router?
Therefore my suggestion would be to get a Cradlepoint and be done with it. |

Agreed. If possible return the POS Linksys and get an MBR-1000.
Your head will thank you for it. |

I'm sure there are MBR-100 users that would say return the POS MBR-100 and get the Linksys.
I have 2 WRT54G3g-STs and a WRTSL54GS that all are rock solid with EVDO butn I use with 3rd party firmwares. My KR1 is even solid now with a USB card, it's junk with a PC Card. They all have caveats.
Might be a better statement to to say "Pitch the junk Linksys firmware and try some other options". I think the equipment is great, but the stock firmware blows. _________________ A simple man. |

go to linksys and install the latest firmware, vm 2.1.12 (I think). Its not available from sprint. If that does not fix the router, return it for another because no product is without its occasional bad units. Mine is rock steady with the Linksys firmware, no reboots, no dropped signal, outstanding wi-fi coverage and RSSI indicator (something the other routers only wish they had).
It just works like its supposed to. Fast, bulletproof, bug free. |

My linksys WRT543G-ST has performed a year, Feb 2008 continuous duty except for a few hours unplugged because of thunder storms in tornado alley South of Tulsa Ok. Have needed to "reboot" less than ten times in that period
Sprint Broad band wireless S720 card used in the router serving three computers scattered about 200 feet apart. |

I agree that the stock Linksys firmware is lacking. I have 2 WRT54G units that use dd-wrt. Attempted to use the R82 Whiterussian image that are hosting but it didn't play nice with my PC 5750. So i built a Kamikaze 7.09 2.4 (Which I posted on that main firmware thread) It worked well, but what really concerned me was Linksys' piss poor manufacturing standards and lack of english comprehending technicians / customer support personnel.
My first product was doa with a bad pcmcia slot (no power to the device). The second device, the WiFi antenna disintegrated in my hand while i was attaching it to the gateway.... Figuring I could just get it replaced through customer service I continued on with my setup / install. After I was satisfied that the device was working and would be acceptable I contacted C/S to get a replacement antenna. I was transferred 3 times with long holds and finally was told that my product couldn't be supported because I bought it online and not from a brick and mortar. I did finally get some support from a nice gentleman named Brian after I wrote an email to Cisco CEO John Chambers, but this was two days after the email and I had already sent the router packing back from whence it came and ordered the Cradlepoint MBR-1000. I'm using it with a Novatel USB 720 and it's like a dream come true. I'd like to see Cradlepoint flesh out some different firmware options for this router, but even as it is now it already exceeds stock Linksys options. This is just my experience, I'm sad to have had this happen. I've been a Linksys loyalist since I took back a D-Link DL-604 gateway and got a BESFR41 a long time ago.
This instance has given me time to reflect, the reason I like my other Linksys products so much is not that the product is superior, but rather the community that uses the product and creates custom firmware for it.
I'm not looking to start a my router is better than yours thread by any means. Just my experiences with the Linksys product encouraged me to buy a product that I normally would not have purchased because I've never really had experience with anything cradlepoint; it wasn't a "recognizable brand" to me. I guess the moral of this long winded post is, if one company's product isn't putting the bounce in your pogo-stick, try someone else, that's why God made RMAs. |

I'll admit to not looking around in the newer firmware too much, but mine appears to have two values: 'Excellent' and 'No Signal'. _________________ --Larry |
