Yes, it's much faster...under special circumstances, and the proper bandwidth, you could get over 20 meg down....still, by no means should you expect that. Either way, it will be better than EVDO.
Yes, you would need a new modem...just go check out the "XOHM/WiMAX" topic. |

WiMax is faster in theory but is quickly being abandoned as a realistic technology to surpass EvDO. Sprint isn't going to follow through with their plans, and other networls, including internationally, are running for the exits too: http://mobile.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/03/23/1512220&from=rss
I hope Verizon will do with RevB what they did with RevA... improve backhauling and then beginning upgrading towers to RevB, starting with the highest-deman areas. It would put them ahead of Sprint and anyone else, so why not go for the competitive edge, given how cheap it is to move from RevA to RevB (versus completely new deployments, like WiMax)? |
