Just noticed that Franklin site had finally updated their CDU-680 Mac software, even though 3gstore buyers had the update weeks ago.

The version that's on the Franklin site is a tiny bit (a week) newer, and has a newer version number (V128 versus 110a58). I have no idea what the differences (if any) between the version 3gstore was giving out to their customers and this one, but the software name is a bit different, and the filesize of the software is different, though the kernel extension (.kext) is the same size.

Anyway, as I recommended with the public release of the new CradlePoint software, you may want to wait for the 3gstore experts to examine the new Franklin Mac software before you install it.

I'm adventurous and I installed V128 on both my Mac Pro quad tower and my PowerBook G4. It works fine with both, as did the private release from the 3gstore. It is certainly a worthwhile upgrade for those who didn't get the last private update from the 3gstore. (It shows signal strength when one hovers the cursor on top of the little antenna strength icon in the menubar).

I have tried the new release on a brand new MBP 17" (10.5.2) and a 1st Generation Macbook -- the modem functionality seems OK but I can not get the hover Pop-Up to work on either machine. I really am interested in seeing the RSSI readings at the places I frequent in my hometown so I can determine if Sprint is a better option than Verizon.

Does anyone have the hover-over function working on a Leopard machine? The Franklin software was the first thing I installed on a clean Leopard install on the 17" MBP and it still did not work.

Looks like there is a small bug in their menu popup code. Just use the menu once to select the "About" item, and the popup signal strength will work after that.
