Attention Macintosh Users
Sprint does not support Mac EVDO, but WE DO. We are NOT new to providing Mac EVDO support. We have been providing Mac EVDO support for the last year to Verizon customers and now we are moving to help fellow Mac users do the same with Sprint's High-Speed Data.
At our web sites, you will find information that you need to get your Sprint Connection Cards working with PowerBooks.
Some of this information is FREE.
Some eBooks we sell.
As a Sprint Authorized Agent, we have an option to sell you a Sprint connection card, that is dropped shipped to us (directly from Sprint), we activate the card (so it will work on your Mac), and send you drivers on CD and directions to install and use. We currently offer this service for the Novatel S620 card.
If you are comfortable with the Terminal Application AND have a pre-activated Sierra AirCard 580 or Novatel S620, here are technical directions to get your card working with PowerBooks:
Sprint PowerBook Mac OS X Directions To Use Sierra AirCard 580
Sprint PowerBook Mac OS X Directions To Use Novatel S620
IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE with the Terminal app, we have the following step by step, keystroke by keystroke, to guide you through the above changes:
Sierra AirCard 580 Mac PDF Setup Directions (Sprint)
Finally, if you want to purchase a Sprint Connection Card from us, we can offer you the same deals that Sprint does (e.g. free Aircard for qualified corporate liable customers), and for a small extra fee, we will activate your Sprint card and send it to you with Mac drivers on a CD, along with directions, so that you can get your Mac using Sprint EVDO in no time!
Sprint Order Form
If you already have your Sprint Connection Card and you are looking for extra performance, consider one of our booster antennas for your card:

| I heard that Mac users can purchase a pre-activated Novatel S620 EV-DO card from a 3rd party vendor??? Works with OS X.3x and 10.4x. |

That 3rd party vendor is us. Actually, we are a Sprint Authorized Agent, we just happen to know what mac users need and provide that service
Here is how it works.
Order from us (see signature line). We place the order with Sprint, Sprint sends us your card. We activate it and then we FedEx it to you with a Mac CD (S620 drivers) and printed directions. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

That would explain it. I read it somewhere, just didn't know where. I'll be sure to pass the word to my Mac buds:) |

I'm trying to get my Novatel Merlin S620 card to work.
It has been activated but unfortunately the PC Card menu shows unknown vendor.
I've followed all the steps for the installer and the manual configuration methods but with no luck.
In the System Profiler the following info shows for the inserted PC Card:
pci1033,35:
Function: USB Controller
Vendor: Unknown
Type: CardBus
Vendor ID: 4147
Device ID: 53
I have tried using the above vendor ID and device ID but with no luck.
Please help me get this card working.
I'm running a Powerbook titanium 1Ghz G4, 1G RAM, 60G hard drive.
Running OS X 10.4.3
Thanks! |

I am glad you didn't pay the $49 too.
There are 100s of PowerBook users who use our directions and drivers that it is working, so it does work. Unfortunately, at this time Sprint doesn't support Mac, so it is impossible to call them for support. We provide free forums, free directions, free drivers, BUT we do not provide free support (phone, IM, email) for those that didn't get their cards from us (yes, we offer all the same pricing that Sprint does - even free cards for qualified business customers). We actually use to provide free support for anyone, even if they didn't get the cards from us (search on forums, you will see), but we started spending all of our time doing this, so it had to stop.
Our drivers are directions are provided free as a service to the Mac community, the $49 directions is a more detailed step by step, keystroke by keystroke for those that don't know how to use the Terminal app.
So, enjoy and use the free information on EVDOinfo.com, take advantage of EVDOforums.com - both sites have helped many people. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

|

I'm a little confused, but is there a card I can purchase from the host site or from sprint that will show the signal indicator and whether its 3G or just 1xRTT for the mac?
It seems some of the verizon cards do this, but do any of the sprint ones?
any help would be appreciated. |

The cards are from the same manufacturers between Verizon and Sprint, HOWEVER, Verizon has native Mac software that shows:
- Signal Strength
- Network indicator (1xRTT vs. EVDO)
- Activation native on Mac
Sprint, does NOT have these 3 features, they currently do not support Mac. We have a Merlin S620 driver, BUT it only works as a high speed modem via the Internet Connect Application, you do not get the above 3 items when using any Sprint card with your Mac. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Micheal put time and work into this forum (which bandwidth does cost money and the board is free to us. But somehow the bills need to be paid), product support and $49 is pretty cheap for what is offered. Please feel free to find a site with free software AND free product support for Macs that use EVDO cards. _________________ EVDO Addict. |

I was hoping with the drivers you guys provided and if I ordered thru your site, I would be able to view the signal indicator, network, etc.
Seems like someone would be able to crack the drive and change a few things to get it to work on sprint.
Thanks for your help, though.

I have been using my Merlin S620 card with the driver mentioned on my PowerBook 17 for more than a month now. I have never had any desire to see my network or signal strength. It's not like I can move my house or my cubicle at work -- The signal is there where I need it. If you are reading this board you probably use an EVDO capable phone -- which I use to see my signal quite readily. Maybe I have just been dumb lucky but Spring EVDO on my Mac has worked well -- signal strength ignorance has been bliss.. |

Did you get it to work?
I would create a new location called "EVDO" before starting and then follow the "Novatel Wireless V620 Mac Driver Install Instructions" document precisely. Strangely, it does call out the "Verizon Support (V620)" Modem script. This is what you use for Sprint also -- believe it or not.
Good luck. |
