|
|
I am in the market to replace my S620 data card, but my new laptop does not have connectors other than USB or bluetooth and I was curious if anyone has tested using the RAZR as a modem over bluetooth or USB? Also, does it support REV A? (Sprint claims yes, but want to be certain)
My plan is to use the phone over Bluetooth if possible when traveling, as this will allow me to keep the phone in my bag most of the time, only removing it to tether for charging or maybe when I need to do a very large file transfer (if the bluetooth speeds are not up to par) Also, may purchase a CradlePoint router for use from time to time.
For what it is worth, the laptop in question is a Lenovo x300, so I would like to avoid draining the battery with a USB data card @ 400-500 watts @ 5v and keep the rig as easy to use as possible while in airports. (Broke a usb port before due to devices protruding from the side)
Thanks in advance for everyones help! |

bluetooth is a major bottleneck, as is the Rev-0 chipset in all RAZR phones. all in all, you are not likely to be happy with the speeds you will get with the plan you have.
also remember that you'll need the PAM plan on your phone in order to use the cradlepoint.
all in all, you'd be better off speedwise to get a new Rev-A USB modem and keep it in the bag with a PHS300 router... the two together could give you up to two hours of high speed surfing at a time and you could still talk on your cellphone. |

That is one option I would like to avoid, as I am often without power for more than 2 hours, not to mention the extra devices to carry, since I am already stuck with Blackberry curve, iPod, and laptop, so I thought a nice "small" cell phone would be a good option, since I am not looking for breakneck speeds (still using evdo rev0 S620 card)
On the bluetooth comment, 1.0 devices are limited to 700kbps "real world" give or take, but 1.2 devices and EDR 2.0 are capable of 2.1 up to 3mbps.
Anyone know of any phones that are Rev A? The other option I have slightly entertained is an AT&T 881U since it maintains an internally battery and can be positioned vertically with no extra or flip style antenna. |
