|

I have my USB 720 connected using an extended usb cable upstairs in my house. Coupled with an external antenna I can get a constant 3 bars of signal, a -79 to -81 dBm, and after multiple trials with speednet it gives me this:
ping: 110 to 130
download: 700 kbps to 900 kbps
upload: 75 kbps to 150 kbps
I bought the CTR350 router because I wanted to leave the Modem upstairs where the good signal is at. I upgraded it to the 2.0.1 so I could connect my uncle's computer though the ethernet port by using the WAN port as a LAN line so he could use the internet. When testing on Speednet everything is roughly the same as without the CTR350 but there is a slight reduction of speed but it's not really that big to worry about.
Now my computer downstairs has a card that can pick up on the wifi signal emitted by the router. My computer is 50 feet away (straight line) downstairs and the signal has to go through about 5 walls. I barely get a 1 bar signal from my computer and sometimes it gets no signal at all. When I am connected I go to speednet and this is what I get:
ping: 185 to 210
download: 500 kbps to 700 kbps
upload: 45 kbps
So here are my questions:
A) Is my high ping and slower down/up caused by such a weak signal reception from my computer? If not what is the source of the high ping?
B) Is there any way that I can boost the wifi signal from the CTR350 or my reception of it from my computer without moving the router or my computer?
Thanks in advance. _________________ Roflcoptor!

You can try turning the 350. We did some tests and found the internal antenna can be a bit directional.
Unofficially, I think the little jack on the wireless board of the 350 is for an external antenna, however, I have not verified this. In any case, opening the 350 will void your warranty.

wow, i actually tried that and everything is cool! Thanks! For people wondering about the subject of my forum I just found out that it was due to weak signal reception after all. I just did a speednet test and I actually got a ping of 119! _________________ Roflcoptor! |

| Amazing how the simplest most obvious things seem to make such a big difference yet totally elude us isn't it? Can't tell you how many times I've needed someone else's eyes to see what I can't see right in front of me. Great catch Joe! |
