|
|
I just bought a Kyocera KPC650 for use with a 15" PowerBook. The EVDO service works fine (though I just ordered a booster antenna for it from Booster-Antenna.com).
My problem is this. The headphone jack on the laptop is immediately next to the PCMCIA slot where the Kyocera slides in. When I listen to music on the headphones, I hear static that correlates precisely with traffic on the card (e.g. with the little blue light on the card). So the card is interfering with the headphone jack. It makes me wonder if the headphone signal is interfering with the card, as well.
Any thoughts or comments? This isn't a major problem, just a mild irritation. |

Hello,
Have you tried with a different pair of headphones?
I have a PowerBook 15", 1.5ghz and tried with my iPod earbuds and I didn't hear any noise when my Kyocera KPC650 was flashing blue or accessing data.
Anyone else want to give it a try and report here what they find. Be sure to include your PowerBook model (speed OK), headphones and EVDO Card tested. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Two, er, three things:
1) It's unlikely the 50Hz-20kHz audio signal range would interfere with the card's operation.
2) As Michael noted, try a different set of headphones. Unlikely to work, but there's a small chance that something about that one set is acting as an antenna to inject the card's signal back into the headphone amp's circuitry.
Most likely, the interference is happening inside the box, so...
3) Borrow someone else's card...maybe the card is defective in the area of shielding?

Thanks all. I'll try another set of headphones.
I don't have access to another Kyocera card to try this, and I don't feel like hacking OS X to make another card work. Everyone else I know with a Verizon EVDO card has a PC with one of the Audiovox models. |

Michael, not to sound like an idiot, but I've been so busy traveling this month that I have not had a chance to throw another pair of headphones in my bag. Sorry about not testing this sooner.
However, I have noticed one thing... I ordered a booster antenna from booster-antenna.com, and when I use it, I don't get static on my headphones. Weird, eh? (and incidentally, this antenna has made an incredible positive difference in my EVDO service!!!) |

Actually, that does make some sense.
When you plug in the booster antenna, it disables the built-in antennas and you are pulling the RF away from the card/laptop and that may be what is happening. Very interesting.
Glad the booster antenna is working out. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |
