I just changed to an Alltel UM150 from the Verizon USB720.
With my Verizon card, I could lock the unit into EVDO by using CTR+D and changing the settings. Can I do this with the Alltel card? I have about 3 bars on both but only get about a 600 download test, so I am thinking I most be changing to National Access. I am using the CRT350 that I purchased here for both.
Thanks...

Not sure about the UM150 but it seems the pc5750 has been the only device with that capability. To try it you'll be doing the Control D thing and look for HDR. For Alltel, locking to HDR equals locking to EVDO.
My experience has been that my Alltel cards have rarely switched over to 1xrtt unless the EVDO signal pretty much disappears.
Also, if you're getting over the 144kbps mark it's EVDO. The two don't mix to give you lower speeds. It's either one or the other.
You may also try repositioning your router to find the new sweet spot for your Alltel device. It will probably make a difference since the Verizon tower is probably not in the same spot as the Alltel tower.
Let us know how it goes and welcome to truly unlimited EVDO!!! |

I am sure that my problem is the PRL version. They have the PRL loaded for an EVDO cell phone instead of the data card.
My current PRL version is 30031
Called Alltel and they said they were sending the current version to the card yesterday at 4:00PM. Still has not updated.
If this continues, VZW will be keeping me as a customer. |

Mine keeps dropping to 1x too. Just activated it yesterday afternoon.
Guy at tech support said I had the wrong PRL, but he couldn't send it to me because I was on sprint tower at the time. If I go to tools-Run_Wizard from the quicklink screen and keep hitting "next" until I get to "finish", it seems to fix it until I disconnect again.
I'm showing -77db in HDR mode, so there's no need for it to keep dropping to 1X. |

| Whats up with alltel and using sprints towers? I was a sprint customer and switched to alltel because sprints C/S is horrid. I've been having speed problems lately and they keep telling me its because i'm on a sprint tower, in an obvious place alltel should have native coverage, and you can't force alltel only... Whats the deal? does alltel even have a network? |

As a follow-up to my earlier statement, I called Alltel yesterday, and they shoved a new PRL to my UM150. Was 30029, now 40036.
I haven't gotten anything but EVDO since the PRL update, and I seem to be connecting to the same Alltel tower as before.
Calling them was interesting. I called the number that another forum post said was data CS, got a voice mail menu that seemed aimed at phone users. When it sent me to a CSR, I could hear background noise for about 5 seconds then he/she hung up on me.
2nd call, when the connection went live (apparently the system shoots it to a CSR and connects him, whether he's ready to talk to you or not) I said "hello" loudly a few times, then waited. Eventually he started talking. It was plain that he was not familiar with my device. After we got far enough into the conversation for him to decide he was in over his head (long after I came to that conclusion) he said he'd send me to advanced data support. I got sent to the same voice mail system that answered the call in the first place.
I went through the VM system again, got a CSR who either understood my problem or she figured the easiest way out was to send an email to the tech guys and have them shove a PRL update to my device, since I was asking for a PRL update. I'm not sure how long I was on the phone with her. The entire call, including dealing with the other CSR, was 25 minutes. |

I too recently called for a PRL update, was on 30029, they told me they would update, now I'm on 30031, on a um150, should I be on 400036? Is that PRL region specific? I'm in AR
Any adverse things happen if i download a prl from corolada.com and manually update? |
