We have about 75 of these routers that were to be used for shared remote access via a corporate VPN. Broadband card is a Novatel S720. This configuration was recommended to us by Sprint. The VPN is provided by Sprint - no VPN software is installed on the laptops. Router firmware is the latest Linksys release.

All computers connected to the router can share internet/email access with no issues. A single computer is able to access network shares and copy files from a Windows server in the office. When 2 or more computers attempt to copy a file simultaneously they both receive network errors and the file transfers stop.

After finally getting through to Linksys level 3 tech support we are told the NAT security on the router prevents Windows file sharing and there is no way to modify this behavior other than putting the router in "Router mode" and using static routes instead of "Gateway Mode". They were surprised when I told them file sharing was working on even one computer. With this number of routers using static routes is not really a viable option.

Would one of the open source firmwares help in this situation or am I stuck with 75 useless routers? Will they even work on this router with the S720 card?

TIA!
