|
|
I recieved mine last week along with the wilson antenna, setup was about as easy as it could be. My desktop is connected to the CRT 350 using the ethernet port, all three laptops in the house had no problem getting connected, and this from somebody who admits to not knowing anything about computers.
My first supprise was that the router automatically connected, I assume I will never need to use the VZ access manager ever again, not that I could, it does not recognize the modem plugged into the router.
I live in an area where on average I got one light on the modem, occasionally two and frequently none, with the wilson connected I now get a steady two, I was running firefox which at first had no problems but seemed really slow, like dial up speed. I did a speed test from speedtest.net and got a ping time around 750 (usually mid 200) my down speed was in the low 500 when I was getting 600-700 and once I got 1200. The test locked up on me before I got the upload speed, at that point firefox decided not to work anymore and nothing I did would get it to run, I switched to IE which ran but was slow - anyone have any ideas for setup tweaks I need to make ? |

Honestly Dave, your problems sound more like they are in your computer, than with your CTR350/modem combo.
It may be time to ask whoever you use for general assistance with your laptop to sweep for viruses, and maybe get you some more RAM installed?
Firefox shouldn't give up on you like that. Maybe you need latest version?
of course, i could be completely wrong (would not be first/last time). |

Dave, I agree with Alex. I've used Firefox with both my KR1 and my MBR1000 and it's lightning fast, even more so than good 'ol sluggish IE. A couple things , some already mentioned by Alex....
*check your version of Firefox. Even if it's the latest version re download it (not just reinstall) and then do the reinstall.
* Also see this this thread (the very first post)... http://www.evdoforums.com/thread504.html
*Make darn sure you have good anti spyware software installed. Spyware (even if you think you're clean) will darn near slow your computing experience to a screeching halt.
Most likely you have, but make sure your browser cache is emptied. Also check to see how big a "bucket" you have for the cache size. If it's too small you;'ll bottle neck real fast and slow down.
* I also use software called "Tune-up Utilities 2007 ( I need to upgrade to the 2008 ver.) and it has a toll that will optimize your internet connection based on what you use. it worked well for me. another great tool within the program is the registry checker which keeps you registry maintained and also helps things run smoother and faster. It also has a 1 Click maintenance scan that I use weekly which does help.
* As Alex stated I too believe it is a computer problem. If you are uncomfortable with trying or doing any of the above then have someone who knows do it for you. Bottom line just on the surface it sounds to me as if your computer needs some old fashioned maintenance. Keep us posted if you will and good luck, you'll get it!

Dave, try this Firefox tweak and see if it helps:
1. Open Firefox browser
2. In address bar type the following text:
about:config
3. You will be redirected to the page with many options (settings) with “Filter Option” in the top.
4. Double click on network.http.pipelining and set it to TRUE
5. Double click on network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and change the value ’4‘ to new value as ‘10‘
Now close the browser and restart it to browse your favorite web sites. These steps will increase your browser speed.

Thanks for all the replies, I will try them out tonight when I get home.
Couple things I might not have been to clear on.
The desktop worked fine prior to installing the router (firefox & IE)
It appeared to work ok after the router was installed but SLOW, then I checked each of three laptops to see if they could connect which they did (not fast but better than the desktop) After I had turned the laptops off I went back to the desktop and firefox would not run, I kept getting timeout or server reset error. The desktop is only a year old and came with good upgrades in the ram department.
I dont believe for one second it is an issue with the router but more likely something that needs tweaking on my end in the setup.
Becuase the kids were using this computer I regulary run spyware on virus checks |

It has to be something in my setup.
I found out that somehow my phishing filter got turned on, so I turned it off, then made the changes that jim_in_va suggested, those two things appeared to help some, at least firefox appears to be working ok.
Then logged onto my poker site and just kept getting disconnected so finally I removed the UM150 from the router and plugged it into the usb port. I needed to log in using the VZ access manager and saw improvement immediatley, RSSI is -85 - 87 when it use to be -89+. Test on speedtest.net were still in the tank but pages were loading much faster, I am assuming there are some settings in the router setup wizard that maybe I am not doing correctly. Also the disconnects from the poker site stopped ??? |

| Poker sites usually run Java. I wonder if they note whether you are using a wifi connection and then drop the connection in an attempt to stop cheating? |

| Dont know about that, later in the evening I reconnected the router and was no longer getting the disconnects, I am just going to play around with the router setup wizard until I find a setting that works the best, although to be honest I dont know what most of the setting choices even do. |
