I had two weeks of great connectivity to the EVDO network, then a couple of days ago - my connection slowed down to a crawl and i was getting disconnected constantly. i think i am only able to connect to the 1xrtt network. when i lock it to connect to HDR only and try to connect using vzw manager- it gets to the authentication part and then gives me QA913 error and it tells me to contact customer service.

if i try to connect manually, (no vzw manager), with the HDR lock on - i get access denied user/pass not valid on network error. If i turn HDR lock off, I can connect manually or with vzw manger, but get only connect speeds of around 80 or 90k.

in vzw manager it shows signal strengths of -87 for 1xrtt and -67 for 1xEVDO. so i think i have good signal strength. it always shows five full bars.

so far, verizon tech support seems to be little help. right now i am waiting on a replacement modem from them.

i guess my question is - what are your thoughts on the problem. it doesn't appear to me to be a signal problem - signal indicators lead me to believe i'm good there - and for three weeks - i had great connectivity from this location.

does it sound like a modem problem? (usb720) to me it almost seems as if they are not allowing me on to the evdo network - as if i've been locked out of it.

just curious on anyones thoughts or any ideas of any troubleshooting i could do.

Sounds like a tower may be out of service! Do you know anyone else in your area that uses VZ evdo? Have them come over and possibly try to connect from your location.

the tower could be up (that's why i get good signal indicators) but something wrong with the EVDO service on the tower?

i don't know of anyone else using the service that could come out here and try connecting - but i could take my laptop into town and try connecting to a different tower to see if i'm able to connect.

i'll try that and see what happens. if anyone else has any ideas on other things i should try, please let me know.

also - if it is a tower problem - how in the world do you ever get verizon tech support to realize that? it seems almost impossible to get them past the concept of it being something on my end.

Trying a different location will give them more info to go by obviously. But, sadly, even then don't hold your breath for the help you need. I'm quite certain their script doesn't allow for any possibility that THEY may have the problem . . . . . . let us know how it goes in town . . . . . and good luck!

I had a similar issue. It turned out to be a partial outage at the tower. I had to get it elevated up to the network performance guys (I think it was 3 steps above the call center support folks) to finally get it resolved.

They actually sent a guy out to my house with some test equipment to measure signal strength, etc...

I proved it wasn't my equipment by taking my laptop and card to another location and connecting fine. They tried to tell me it was signal, so I had them tell me where the tower was and I went there. Same problem with signal through the roof. I finally got them to believe me!

Once they fixed the tower it worked better than ever.

well...the new modem arrived - and apparently that was the problem - cause now i can connect to the EVDO network with great speeds.

thanks everybody for your input.
