This will probably require the hiring of an additional person and result in an increase in the price of the units considering the present structure of immediate response and add ons and updates. Hard for an active engineering staff to keep up with these changes. It might require an extreme change in management to force the engineers to document what they do...and so on. But it is doable.

We are not asking for something that would require them to add personal. In fact, by adding a couple of lines of text to a changelog.txt file, or a web entry, they would reduce the workload of their support department (fewer emails, fewer called, fewer broken routers when a firmware update is not needed). |

My Signature: What seems easy to someone not doing the task is usually quite complex if one tries to do it correctly.
Actually it is shorter than that since I wasn't trying to be absolutely correct.
How about: Every task seems easy if it is not your job.
Or: if it were easy it would have been done already.
This gets habit forming... |

LOL! Keep the habit going!
FWIW, I do understand what it takes to pull off a changelog, as the main part of my business involves writing Windows device drivers. We don't document every change, but we do give a short description of the highlights.

Check out the CradlePoint support page - there is now a release note for each release for the CTR350/PHS300/MBR1000.

Right...sorry, posted without reading.
And also, back to the main topic of this conversation, there is no Law I know of in anywhere in any of the telecommunications or FCC rulings that says that a vendor has to give you release notes of any kind.
There are false advertising laws, there are laws for compliance, but there isn't anything anywhere I've ever come across that says "you have to tell end users what your firmware changes."
Prove me wrong, I'd love to know. |

This has nothing to do with FCC or telecommunications laws.
I do know there are some states that have laws regarding (for example) a store that continues to sell a product with known defects.
I believe there are laws or libility issues for manufacturers that fail to disclose when a product is known to them to cause harm (else, there would be very few product recalls).

Joe I'm glad Cradle Point began listing the firmware notes, but this statement does not apply to them at all in my opinion. We're talking apples and oranges here. Cradle Point has NOT sold the public anything that causes harm nor has it sold a defective product. All we're talking about here is release notes for firmware updates lol! They did what we all asked so in my opinion it's a done deal and thank them. Now are we going to continue to chastise them? They make a great product in my opinion as well as others. As far as I'm concerned it's a done deal and they were nice enough to do what we asked almost overnight. |

| More simply than that Joe, I think your wrong. Unless you can site the section of law, I think you're making baseless statements. |

Personally this has gone way off subject and would prefer to see it end. This went from a request for notes on simple firmware release to laws governing harmful products and recalled and defective items!
Cradle Point met our desires and very quickly at that. No need to beat a dead horse, especially if it may still be alive!
Sheesh! Thank you Cradle Point and 3G, now lets get on to routing. |
