Does or has anyone ever played World Of Warcraft on an EVDO connection? I currently use a USB 720 verizon card, I am currently getting -87dbm and get about 1.3 down and up to 1.7 on good days. My upload is around 150-200. I guess my biggest question is going to be about latency. I am pretty sure that the latency I am getting is going to be pretty bad over this type of connection. Is this going to make the game unplayable? Please share any insight or ideas you may have.
Thanks for your time,
Brian |

I've been using an EVDO Rev 0 connection to play WoW for the past couple of months. My average latency was 600ms - playable solo, but no way I'll try to heal a heroic instance with that latency. I'm switching to Rev A service later this week, and I'm hoping for much lower latency. I'll try to post here what I experience.
I've read in other posts that some people with Rev A see WoW latency in the 100 to 200ms range, which I'd be very happy with. |

So I have been playing now for 1 day. I am getting really low latency like 200-400 range. But after about 2 hours it kicked me off of rev a and put me on national access for awhile. I called Verizon, and they had no clue what was going on. I was able to get back on rev a after 45 min or so.
Anyone experienced anything like this? |

| I have been playing WoW on evdo for a week or so now (Alltel), and we are still REV 0. I get anywhere from 200ms to 600ms.. usually averaging between 300-400. Which is actually still way better than my dial up ever was. I haven't noticed much lag at all, however I have not tried pvping yet. I'm sure I won't rock the house like someone with 10ms ping will.. but I don't see a reason why I can't have fun and kill a few noobs. |

First post on the site
I got the Verizon EVDO because I live way out in the boonies and wanted to have decent internet. A guy at work convinced me to give WoW a try, so I did.
I can 'play' the game, but the lag is out of this world. Keep in mind, I am technically impaired, so I joined this forum to try and figure out how to improve my internets performance.
Glad to see yall are able to play, now I have something to shoot for! |

I too play WoW over EVDO, have been for a couple years now. Pings are in the 300-500 range for me. I PvP, heal heroics, and raid at a very high level (Just starting Mount Hyjal and Black Temple for those that means anything to )
The biggest factor with EVDO and gaming is a steady signal, to prevent your pings form jumping around. See my post in this thread for details on my path:

Bottom line is EVDO is very workable for all aspects of WoW; it's just a matter of getting a nice strong signal. |

My wife and I share a Rev0 connection and it's not bad. It's not like real broadband, though. She had to stop being MT in our raiding guild b/c she can't time interrupts/stance dance with the lag.
Maybe once we upgrade to RevA things will be better. |

So i recently purchased Verizon USB 727 for home broadband, typical rural no dsl/cable availabilty scenario.
At first the connection was shaky, but once i purchased the adapter cable and magnetic antenna the connection is very stable.
Download speeds peaking at 1.4MB and upload ~250KB.
I play warcraft very easily on the connection. Latency as good as 270 and up too 700, worst case. On average the latency is 400ms, good enough for me to raid heal 25 man content. And that is with Ventrillo running, and a few web sites open for extra reading.
hope this info helps someone

yeah i agree with the guys above
But ive had and have better Pings on "good" days
Low as 190's while in citys like Org,Undercity, and mid 200's in Dalaran
my Connection really peeks at night for some reason hitting 1.2 up 1.4 download
anything other than that is mid 300's Low 400's
300+ upload
Overall 100% Playable 100% Enjoyable
exceeds 10 fold Wildblue/Dialup combo
if ur worried about usage
Ive been able to keep my usage under 5GB also i still download music,WoW,surf, youtube its just all in Moderation

Found something interesting while figuring out my outrageous (800+) latency in WoW.
First some background.
I have a MacBook Pro 2.4 with OS X 10.5.6
I'm on Alltel using a UM175 and a CTR500(FW 1.5). My high latency would be present whether using the CTR500 or having the UM175 connected directly to my laptop. I had high latency on both my laptop and desktop (also Mac) machines. Time of day made no difference.
Upon logging into WoW my latency would be in the 150-300 range which is playable. Within 10 minutes my latency would climb to a minimum of 600 and could peak well over 2000 regardless of zone or whether I was in a raid or solo. I would often DC multiple times especially during raid battles. Ventrilo would stutter and lag as well.
What I noticed was when I had WoW running in the background and I was surfing the web (usually searching for latency fixes ) I would see my latency drop to sub 400 in WoW. "Interesting," I thought.
I decided to try a little experiment. I found a large downloadable file on the net and fired up Speed Download (dl manager). I capped the dl speed to 5 KB/s and started the download. Wouldn't you know it but within a few minutes my WoW latency dropped to sub 200 speeds and never got higher than 300! I'm looking at 167ms in WoW as I type this.
I'm going to continue to watch this just in case it's a fluke but it's been good for three hours so far.
If you have the same problem as I did try this out and let us know your results. |

Have you tried different servers?
There are also ways to route your connection so you miss alot of the middle stuff which may be incurring your lag.
I've never tried them myself, but gamepath.net may be one option. |
