Starting March 2 2008, all newly activated Verizon EVDO Data plans include overage charges:
same for tethering plan options on phones and pda's:
For those who might be wondering how much data that is, check this out: What Does 5GB Get Me?

So I'm assuming that if we have a plan already we won't be subject to the new rate?
I go over 5g every month mostly because this is my main internet and I download itunes play warcraft and generally use this thing alot lol. |

its not known yet, what verizon will do with existing accounts.
logic says since there hasn't been any mention of overage charges being applied to older accounts, then its not going to happen. |

Yea, I don't think its going to happen either. I don't recall anything in the contract that says they can charge you for going over the 5GB limit. So, I think you would have to sign a new contact before this would be possible.
Again, this is just my speculation, and nothing official. |

| If they do start charging or state that they will, wouldn't that be an out to the contract without an early termination fee? I would hope so mines not up until September, can't wait to switch to Sprint. |

It is *way* worth mentioning that Sprint has a roaming agreement with Alltel, and even if the Sprint coverage maps do not show EVDO in your area, it is worth taking a look at the AllTel coverage maps to see if EVDO is available in your area.
We have Sprint, and roam on AllTel EVDO for free, and the AllTel coverage is very extensive. We drove from N.W. Florida to Texas, and on to Colorado, and where hardly ever without EVDO.
for those traveling a lot, I reccomend downloaling all the Sprint and AllTel coverage areas in the USA and splic them together, making a couple of really nice images of national coverage, at a pretty fair resolution.

totally agree with joe -- for folks who travel a lot, and have a coverage choice, we've often recommended sprint because of their better roaming agreement.
i've spliced together coverage maps many times.
thats the problem. you keep having to re-splice each time new coverage comes into play. that gets bothersome. |

| looks like multiple sites (mobileburn.com and engadget.com) are confirming that Verizon's data plans are now capped at 5 GB with overage charges of 0.50$/MB. Wow. I just placed an order to start new VZW service, looks like I might have to cancel it and to with sat................ |

You should be OK since you ordered before March 2. But you may be limited to 200Kbps for a month if you go over 5Gbps.
Do Sprint or Alltel not have EVDO in your area? |

Unfortunately, no - the size of the Sprint and Alltel service areas in central VA really sucks. I am on the outskirts of the Richmond, VA metro area, which has always traditionally been a very heavy VZW and Cingular market (and I am even too far out for the Cingular 3G service . |

| With March 2nd only a couple days away, Has it been confirmed yet that existing customers will not be limited to the 5GB limit and overage charge? My account still shows "unlimited MB" If the overage charge is as ridiculous as I hear, Im canceling as soon as possible. |

This is now on the revised page for data plans: http://tinyurl.com/a9wxy
It may still take a while to find out what affect it has on accounts started prior to March 2nd. |
