It may still take a while to find out what affect it has on accounts started prior to March 2nd. |
I hit your link and my SPYSITE thingy goes nuts! |

Probably because it's a tinyurl.com link that hides the actual destination.

| Spoke to customer service and they said preexisting accounts are grandfathered. I just assumed a VZW account and because it was established last year, I will not be affected by the 5 GB cap. |

You ARE subject to the 5 Gb cap however you won't be charged for the overages. It's possible you may get throttled back if you go over , but rest assured you are bound by their 5GB cap. Nobody is exempt from the 5GB cap. |

| So I'm not going to see my bill this month and get like 3,000 in overages because I've had it for a year now? |

| Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but what happens if you have a "grandfathered" account (3 years old) but you upgrade your card via renewal of the 2-year agreement (which allows you to get a new card, free)? In other words, is the grandfathering/throttling dependent on when you last renewed your contract or when the account was created? Thanks. |

I believe once you enter a "new" contract they have you and you had better get it in writing if they say no!
Uberbob102000..... I think you are ok and are grandfathered in.

I was told by CS that if I upgrade my datacard I will then be subject to the new policy for overage charges on exceeding the 5 GB cap.

| That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure because that would suck. There goes my new TV budget. I may move to sprint anyways here soon since I want Rev A. I have a 5740 right now. |

Is there a way to tell if you got switched, other than going over to see if they charge you?
I've got an EVDO card that I renewed in May of '07, so I'm assuming that one is ok. I've also got a Treo 700p with the unlimited data that I was forced to add a one year contract extension onto last month (went over minutes, it all got really crazy). I didn't know about this new policy and now I'm afraid that I may run into trouble. I've been counting on VZW to terminate my service if I go over the limit, as they had been doing for several years. That's how I was going to get out of VZW and get an iPhone when the 3G version comes out next month. If they're not doing that anymore then I'll have to pay the ETF to get out. |
