I've now heard from a very reliable source that EVDO will be in San Luis Obispo by June. for sure. I've heard the "for sure" before, but this sounds like it. There is some deadline of some sort that must be adhered to; it's something like 45 days after May 1 or so.

I've been hearing "it's coming in a few months" for years now.

I just hope your reliable source was not anyone from the SLO store. They already took me for a ride as well as customer service. Yep March 1st they said back in Jan. I pursued it all the way up the chain to the pacfic NW Corp office. Got out without ETF's and went with Sprint which has been out in SLO for a while now and has NO bandwidth cap or overage charges either! . Fast speeds and haven't missed a lick. 5 years, I got tired of waiting. Good move in the end though. Cool

I’m safe for now since I activated in June of 2006. However, my two year contract is up in a few months. When/if I renew, am I going to be hit with these new terms of service? Hopefully I’ll be grandfathered in.

Not if you switch to Sprint. Wink

This worries me. I hover right around the 5g limit due to this being a new pc. I wont be and should have my usage down alot very soon.. however..

I started as a customer feb 7th 2008. My contract shows as follows, and hasnt changed. I recieved a bill march 7th and I had a few hundred mb over the 5g limit and i had no extra charges.

Plan Details

BROADBANDACCESS $59.99 0607

Contract End Date: 02/06/10

Monthly access charge: $59.99
Monthly allowance minutes:
Per minute rate after allowance: $0.25 peak , $0.25 off-peak

Promotion details
This cell phone number currently does not have any promotions

How to use features

Included Features:

1XEVDO
Call Delivery

UNLIMITED MB ALLOWANCE
NEW EVERY TWO TIERED

Optional Features:

$0.20 Per Text Message sent or received
Streamlined Billing

DECLINED INSURANCE
NATLACCESS ROAMING PAYU

So seems I am still safe? Like I said, I got a bill after march 2nd, and my plan remained the same. No overage charges.

Yes you are safe. Your current terms of service will remain in effect until you cancel your service, as current terms are grandfathered in contract renewals. Of course, by 2010 this grandfathering may be eliminated, since VZW has the right to change their terms at any time but that's how it stands at present. I lost my unlimited MB allowance on my tethring option when I canceled it for a card trial, and got stuck with the 5G cap when I reinstated it after returning the card.

Out of no where I got a call from Verizon. They said it was time to renew my contract (cell). I've never had that call before and I've been with Verizon for a ton of years! Anyway, I ask the lady if it would also affect my wireless - she didn't have a clue. I told her that I will not renew if it affects my wireless and IF it does - I will move all my accounts over to Sprint since they don't have a MB limit. She said thank you and that was that. I'm sure it didn't go any further then our phone conversation but it did make me feel good. Very Happy

I wonder if this was an attempt to get rid of my grandfather clause? Interesting...

Verizon in my opinion is just ridiculous. I thought a 5GB limit was a complete joke let alone there new plan.

There coverage map shows me on the fringe of broadband and I'm only able to get enough coverage to connect to 1Xrtt currently and I use between 4.5GB-6GB on 1Xrtt let alone having full Rev-A.

Luckily I bought my card Feb, 08 so I'm safe from this ridiculous move. Just ordered a Yagi so I'm hoping I can get a steady Rev-A signal then I'll be in heaven.

Background wise I'm in a Hi speed challenged area. Comcast is 4 miles out from me and they won't run the cable to my area. So my options were continue with 56k go with satellite or this. I decided on this route since it has a much lower early termination fee than satellite does. I can live on 1xRtt for the moment with the comfort knowing if I decided to move I can drop it without much of a termination fee.

If DSL or Cable ever does get to me you can bet I will drop my Verizon the day I find out a better option is available.

As a few other posters have stated the only reason they have this is because of a lack of options. If sprint had coverage in my area I would of went with them without a second thought.

As far as the 50MB plan. Thats just funny plain and simple. A simple question to anybody that can explain this. If your a user that doesn't use more than 50MB per month wouldn't dial up for $9.95 be a much simpler and cost efficient option? Why on earth do you need Hi speed internet if all you do is check your email and download a file every once and a while. A month's worth of windows updates would far exceed that usage.

This is my primary connection and I use it to stream videos, download music/games/videos , software updates, wireless to my PS3, and to surf the web and check email.

If I can get Rev-A to connect after I get my Yagi I would like to also be able to use it to download HD content as well as use it for Blu Ray Live profile 2.0 options.

To someone like me 5GB is a joke on a supposed Hi Speed connection when I use that getting 1/10th a full on Rev-A speed.

I can tell you one thing if I wasn't grandfathered in I would of said the heck with it cancelled and ordered wild blue.

Using Hughesnet at a fairly low plan rate, I only got FAP'ed once, when I downloaded a longish hi-res video. I then began checking my usage on their site - most days, with normal browsing and maybe a couple of smaller downloads (You Tube) I didn't break 50 mb. Occasionally I'd download a longer vid or something and hit over 100. Rarely ever got over 200 mb/day. It's hard to imagine averaging 166 mb/day for thirty days for me.
Agree, that's a lot. But I do think that Verizon will gradually up the limits, as they build in more capacity.

I am so glad I don't have Verizon anymore and I have cancelled all of our Verizon data cards because of the 5 GB limit and will never go back. All Verizon is doing is giving Sprint more business.

Humm... When was that? Cause I talked to them three weeks ago and thay said they don't know. Maybe if we all can get something going they can up the limit as so of us are paying $60 and higher a month for just 5GB when sprint has the same price. lol Very Happy

It was last week. I was having trouble with um 150. I switched it to another computer and when I went to activate it started acting crazy and wouldn't connect, so i called and the tech did something on her end. We started shooting the s**t and I asked her about the 5gb limit. She said they were probably going to up it because alot of people were going over it.
