Well my speeds are not as good as the card via usb on desktop was, im sure it is a setting somewere but not sure were to start there, before i was getting speed tests at steady at 1.4mb and burst of 3.8mb down with around 210 and 240 upload. these tests were done over the last 4 days repeat and always hit close to these numbers.
with card in router im going from downloads of 500kb to 750kb to 900kb and eveything inbetween with uploads all around 127kb-150kb
I also seem to have a hard time with he vist desktop keeping connected via lan to internet, will go to router but have to play with vista settings all the time to get internet going.
the wireless desktop connect great and always hits the internet right off the bat. althou it seems slow to start anything online after is gets going it moves fine tho.
any ideas on settings would be a help and save me time on things im not sure of what im into!

i have not tried gaming yet, really would like to get all the other things going smooth first.
im sure its all something simple and im overlooking or something like that tho.

the best choice is the MBR1000 as described in this post.

mbird44, I'm wondering about your speeds. Alltel can't give you bursts of "3.8mb down" since the max speed even for EVDO Rev A is 3.1Mb. What you're describing are Rev A speeds and as far as I know Alltel hasn't released any firmware updates for the KPC680 to be able to run on their limited Rev A network even if you're lucky enough to be in one of their very limited Rev A areas.

Out of curiosity, when you're have your device hooked up straight to your PC, click on tools>help>about and see what it says at the bottom where it lists your device's capabilities. (Mine doesn't mention Rev A while folks with the PC5750 and the UM150 both report the Capabilities showing Rev A.)

I think it would be cool to get your real speeds established before we start reporting the CradlePoint routers cutting speeds by anywhere from half to two thirds. Maybe you could post some images of your speed tests both via the router and with the KPC680 plugged directly into your computer if you wouldn't mind? Not calling you a liar but something doesn't match up here and I'd really like to see what's up.

One other thought is that you may try moving the router around to different locations to see where it picks up the best signal. I'd bet if you're seeing these type of speed decreases that it's related to the your signal.

well i may jumped ahead of myself a bit, but over the weekend was the first time i had the card, before was via phone.
here is a link to screen shot of last weekends speeds.
http://preplex.com/speed.jpg
my speeds have gotten better since that first few days, and we have had some nasty ice storms, so that may be making things worst.
i will run more test over the weekend.
i have been playing call of duty 4 without a single hicup or stall, same with bf42.
the online games are smooth and latency is around 111ms some times it jumps up to around 200 but if i didnt see it i would never know it.
the slow part i had on the notebook was a problem in the notebook.
i am very happy overall with both the alltel kpc680 and the mbr1000.
just one minor thing i am having a prob with is overnight or long idol times of 8+ hours i have to unplug an plug back in to get it to start on the internet. i would get the screen its trying please wait but even after 15mins it still dont. faster to just notice the light is flashing and unplug then plug back in then all connects in a few sec.
i was bragging heavy to friends monday morn with a print out of the speed test i linked to. really it was like that all last weekend. not sure why but it sure was nice. i will hook card back up this weekend a see if it was just a sweet lucky weekend!!!

If anyone else has had success OR failure with the MBR1000 + KPC680 from ALLTEL, please reply to this thread.

We have had mixed results from customers and I want to hear from others that may have more to say.

I have a MBR1000 and a KPC680 card with Alltel as the provider. I have the 1.1 firmware applied to the MBR1000 and the KPC680 has the 40036 prl applied. I am testing in northern Michigan. The tower is line of site about 3.5 miles away.

I average around 700k but sometimes get as good as 1.1 meg down. I average about 100k up sometimes get as good as 120k up.

Here are a couple of things I hope to resolve:

After a power down and restart of the router I have to pull the KPC680 and plug in back in before I am able to make my connection to Alltel. I have been told this may be fixed with a firmware update.

After time goes by without any activity it is often necessary pull out the KPC680 and plug it back in to reconnect to Alltel. I understand that the card goes dormant after a certain amount of time which causes this disconnect. As a workaround it was suggested that I do this:

[ADMIN: Removed]

The workaround seems to keep me connected though the day. Alltel does disconnect from the router usually sometime after midnight. This is causing me to have to pull out the KPC680 and plug it back in to reconnect to Alltel the next day.

Yes, we know about that "work around", we are the ones that gave it to you in a support ticket.

But there are other issues we are aware of and trying to get feedback from users.

This combo is working grate for me. Thanks 3G for all your great support and help. No more DOR parts and no more rebooting pulling 680 in and out etc. Again thank you very much.

I would have to say the same combo is not working well for me at all. I replaced a Kyocera KR1 with the Cradlepoint MBR1000 to specifically address constant drops from the Alltel network using the KPC-680. For the first two days, I had no drops whatsoever and I thought my luck had changed.

Not to be. I soon started to experience the same dropouts only now they are more frequent and it takes a miracle to get reconnected. Constantly unplugging and plugging the card. Rebooting the router. Resetting the router. In the Cradlepoint config, when I click on status the router gets the WAN IP and DNS info appears. However, when I go to modem info, at the very bottom of the window, the modem bounces between connected and disconnected.

Sometimes when I get connected, it will stay online for hours at a time. On some days, its up and down constantly. Oddly enough, on some occasions, it seems like the more frequently I surf or change pages, the more likely I am to experience a dropped connection.

What really irks me to no end is I can take that card and plug it into my laptop and experience no drops for days at a time. At this point, I have tried everything I can think of except the workaround listed above which was removed. I would love to know what that involves.

I am honestly thinking about going back to satellite. At least its stable, slow but very stable.

Sounds to me that you might ought to go back and study your troubleshooting ABC's. The MBR1000 and KPC680 will and does work.

Perhaps you could give me some advice since there is no documentation included with the MBR1000?

I have installed more than 50 gateway routers of all different kinds. I also happen to be a network manager so I doubt my troubleshooting ability is an issue.
