I've finally got a working home based router/firewall built for EVDO.
Its an old Mini-ITX mb with a Ricoh PCMCIA to PCI adapter.
I'm running smootwall 3.0 with the kernel mods I patched in to support the Merlin S720 card and so far I have a stable PPP connection.
HOWEVER I can't get the default route to work. The PPP connection
sets a default gw to 0.0.0.0
I then manually set the default GW per the PPP connection to the default but still cant get pass traffic.
Anybody else have a problem with ppp settings when they make their EVDO connection?
I'm looking at the firewall too and that may be where the problem is. |

My problems were with my 'smoothwall' firewall settings. The defined routing table of
smoothwall (root) /etc/ppp $ netstat -rnv
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface
68.28.xxx.xx 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 ppp0
Looks odd, but traffic passes fine.
Now to get the external antenna on the roof to get speeds better than 1xRTT. |
