I have been experimenting with the Wilson trucker antenna (301101) and dual band Wilson amp (811201). I have been able to improve upload and download speeds drastically by simply moving the setup to different spots on the roof, but I would like to try raising the antenna about 10 meters higher than it currently is positioned.
I wonder if there is some kind of a signal meter I could use (besides a laptop) so I could read signal strength more conveniently while swinging from an antenna 15 meters off the ground. |

Oh yea...and what frequency is Verizon's Rev-A signal? The tech support person at Verizon acted like that info is national security. Am I correct in assuming that the National Access frequency is 800Ghz and the Rev-A is 1900Ghz? I would like to try some different antennas, and I want to know what frequency to get.
Also is Rev-A the same thing as EVDO? Verizon's tech support kept telling me that Rev-A and EVDO were different signals with different capabilities. |

rev-A is the latest deployed version of EVDO. The original version was rev-O
Sprints native system is all 1900MHz. Verizon uses 800MHz, 19000MHz, or maybe both depending on the location.

It might give you an idea of what bands are used in your area. I don't know how accurate this is but it seems resaonable for a few areas I know. As far as the EVDO, I would guess it could on either band. If the carrier uses both bands I would guess EVDO is probably on 1900MHz.
To meter, if you have an EVDO phone with an external antenna connector, you could hook that up to your antenna. The signal bars would give you a rough idea. Wilson makes adapter cables for many phones about $10. I think they have a look up on their website tp see if they have one for your phone. |
