I called in today and talked with a very helpful fella (who's name I promptly forgot - sorry).
We tried many different things but it comes down to a problem with Leopard not letting you change DNS addresses when connecting via DHCP, and Sprints DNS servers not properly pointing at the canada.com web site.
I have also done some digging and found out that the problem is quite wide-spread. There are a couple of threads on the Apple discussion forum about this very issue. One of the work-arounds discussed is to change the DNS settings manually in your router, but of course if you are connecting via Express card this isn't possible.
it looks as though the only solution is to downgrade to Tiger or wait for Apple to fix the problem - though it's now been eight months or so since the problem was discovered. |

| Have you tried disconnecting the EVDO card and then entering the new DNS numbers? I am sure with the card active or any other network device, that Apple would not allow those to be changed. |
